Winnipeg Gameday Session Sign-up Thread - GAMEDAY REACTIONS? COME SHARE!

Devilbat,

Actually I was refering to my other group, I guess since we are not playing regularily I should not have called them my regular group.

Artellan,

The group I was talking about tend towards the 'action' side of the equation. While interesting, the game we played during the game day seemed to me to be much more 'role' playing than 'action', but then again that might have just been the limited glimpse available in that type of format (short time period). I guess I would need somewhat more experience in the system to get a better feel for it.

Also, since that group plays at most every 3 to 4 weeks, for about 4 hours, I think we are currently content to just stay with what is familiar. When I was younger, and gaming every weekend, there would have been much more room to try a variety of systems.

Thanks for the reply Dave. I think you're right in that the game leans towards more role-play and 'building' towards the big conflicts (shootouts or duels of wits). We didn't get time to do a Firefight, which is the 'action' part of Burning Empires. But because of the scene structure rules, you can only have a max of 2 firefights in a maneuver, compared with several color, interstitial, and building scenes. (Building scenes can have smaller-scale combats though, using the I Corner Him And Stab Him in The Face rules.)

So while the big firefights can be full of action and take a while to play out, they'll always be accompanied by other types of scenes to set the stage or role-play the reactions to it.

(I'm still trying to grok Firefights myself ... only played out one so far with my BE group. It was fun, but I think we'll know how to make it a lot more fun next time.)
