Witcher change up?

Many cool things in series 3 that still make it worth watching. The Thanned Coup in particular. Seeing Tissaia cast Alzur’s Thunderbolt was pretty boss.

I don’t get the criticism of Geralt not getting enough screen time. The story has always been Ciri’s as well. Books and games.

Looking forward to series 4 in a few weeks.
Maybe I’ve already forgotten it. I do recall wanting to see the final 2-3 episodes NF busted up. When they finally dropped it killed the series for me.

Maybe a re-watch will help. Sometimes things improve because expectations are tempered.

If we think of the "normal" tv show, if a show establishes a main protagonist that the show revolves around, and then you shift to now follow a different character, it can be jarring for people. Doesn't matter if its true to previous media, people get used to a certain thing and often don't like it when the show changes direction for a long while.

Imagine if half a season of supernatural focused on Bobby and we barely saw the brother's. Now some people would be fine with that (even think that was interesting)....but a lot of people would be thrown off by it. They come to the show to watch the brothers, not the other characters.

People watch the Witcher for...the Witcher, not the other characters.

Maybe, but I think the series established quite early on that the other characters are just as important.

I started a re-watch in the last fortnight and just finished series 1. Geralt spends most of the last three episodes locked up or unconscious on the back of a wagon. Most of episode 2 is about Yen. Ciri takes up at least a third of screen time.

The Witcher 4 game even features Ciri as the main protagonist apparently.

Folks are entitled to like Geralt. I just don’t get why featuring other characters more makes it not ‘the Witcher’.

As an aside I think Yen and Ciri are great characters and a lot of fun to watch.

So what I'm understanding is that you can't wait for the next season of The Last of Us!

It's not so much a criticism as a disappointment, as we didn't get more Cavill-Gerault. And honestly, he was a huge draw, not just because of Cavill, but because that part of the story was the most engrossing to many (including me). When he wasn't in the story for extended periods, it just felt flatter.
