D&D 5E With the release of each new setting book, the SCAG looks worse and worse...

I would love to see WOTC do smaller adventures for sure. Small cost staple bound books are not that expensive to produce. I know, everyone is going to say "DMSguild" but that doesn't support GAME STORES. We used to be a culture all about supporting the FLGS, what happened to that? I just don't see a lot of that on these boards anymore. It's really sad to me.
While I agree with a lot of this, some of us live an hour away from a game store (not counting the one that primarily sells used Magic cards). Personally, even if I have energy to glance through it when I go shopping, I rarely have the energy to truly browse. I do, however, look at them when I go to Barnes & Noble.

Someone keeps saying the lore hasn’t changed. Oh yeah? Is King Azoun IV still king of Cormyr? Or is it still the regent? Or did the kid grow up and take over? Is Dove Falconhand still kicking it in the dales?

lore includes who is running the show. Not just gods and names of places. that’s part of what defined the Realms for decades and what a lot of fans have been wondering. None of the Sundering material really addressed the changes that occurred and for many long time FR DMs it is a damper on their campaigns because many stick to a canon and part of the rejection of 4e FR was that whole sections of the world were wiped out. So.... it’s a moot argument to say the lore is the same. It’s not.

But we do know who is king of Cormyr (or rather Queen) - Raedra Obaskyr. And Dove Falconhand is helping her sister in Waterdeep.

So the idea that there isn't any lore being produced is wrong.

i don’t think anyone said there wasn’t. I am on Ed’s twitter and a lot of cool stuff comes on there.

You can print them out. That is what I usually do, and then hole-punch them and put them in a binder.

I do much prefer the real books, though, hardcover or softcover.

yeah that’s the thing, I don’t buy PDFs anymore for the most part. It undermines the FLGS or book stores. Plus ink is still pretty pricey. I’ve mentioned buying PDFs and they just sit because they are too hard on my eyes to read or the amount of ink and paper is either more expensive than buying the book or cost prohibitive to do at home. For WOtC that’s not healthy for their customers. For smaller publishers PDFs are fine and so are some POD. I do buy some POD through Amazon.

It doesn't help those that do not use D&D Beyond or don't/can't use a tablet or computer screen and yes they do exist.

Sure, I don't use Beyond myself: I buy the hardcover books from my FLGS. Thing is, it would undermine the stores to re-release large sections (again, XGtE has a handful of pages of previously printed material) from a book just a few feet away on the shelf.
