Wizard Feats Question

Toads are sick on gnomes... PBEM game where 75%HP is the norm, my gnome gets more than everyone save the fighter with 16 con.... 22 con is sick.

My gnome loves Kermit :)

Point Blank is also a good feat for a 1st level Wizard. +1 to hit with crossbow put you on par with most other for missle combat and it helps with range touch attack spells like rays. Usefull for both classes if you go Babarian/Wizard or just striaght Wizard.

Gosh... nobody's even mentioned a toad yet...

sorry from dragging this away from a discusion on a fighter/wizard but.....

whats so wrong about the toad familure? I've only used it with one of my 4 wizards I've played in 3rd ED, and that was because it was a dugeon crawl game with little RPing. I'd much rather have a flying familure, they're much more valuable, IMO. If you want a toad, thats fine with me. I'll stick with the Raven.

aasimar paladin1=sorcererX. with a good 'virgin-birth' type background to the heroine paladin mom who was resurrected and discovered to be pregnant, this combo rocks. ~D

Aasimer has an ECL of +1 I think, so this won't work for 2nd level. Higher level it will, but thats a 2 level hinderance to your spellcasting ability, and sorcerer is slow enough as it is.

To the original poster, Metamagic feats benefit wizards more then sorcerers. The fact that you have to prepare them in advance is not that big of deal for a wizard. After all, wizards always plan ahead.

If you want to use better weapons then a wizards normal selection, choose elf. The hit to Con can be overcome with a toad familiar, so youre not hurting that much for hp.

Take my advice. Go straight wizard. My experience with cross-classing wizard with a fightertype class proves that its more trouble then its worth. At low levels, its all fun and cool, but the higher up you go, the more you'll regret taking that one level.

My suggestion on feats: Spell Focus or Still Spell. Both have the benefit of being useful at low levels as well as high levels.

If you are still thinking of doing a wizard/fighter type cross, I would suggest you look at the SpellSword prestige class in Tome & Blood.

You could go Barbarian / Wizard and spend a feat on Heavy Armour Proficiency in order to qualify. The main advantage of this PrC is the ability to wear armour with a reduced chance of Arcane Failure.

The other thing worth mentioning is that you could take the Still Spell feat and use that to cast spells while fully armoured. You only have a chance of Arcane Failure if the spell has a Somantic component, and Still Spell removes that. You can also use all the wands you want while armoured.

Recommended feats for any wizard:

DC-improvers: Spell Prodigy, Spell Focus, etc.

Eventually, you will *need* to be able to beat SR, so Spell Penetration (etc) is a must.

Also, for metamagics, I suggest Quicken Spell (but not till 9th level), as well as Persistent Spell (which has a prerequisite of Extend Spell, which you might as well take early on).

Item creation is mostly irrelevant in my experience, since you only save half on the costs... but you still had to spend the feat as well as some xp. You might as well just go to the store to buy stuff.

I can't see it... is your MEA that important to you?

Oh yeah. I'd rather get off 2 metamagicked spells and move while hasted then get off 1 and not move. Or even just get off 1 and move then get off none and not move.

That's not a valid comparison.

The wizard, while hasted, can get off two MMk spells and move.

The sorcerer can get off one MMk spell and move, or a MMk spell and a normal spell and not move.

Unhasted, the wizard can cast a MMk spell and move; the sorcerer can cast a MMk spell and not move.
