wizard/sorceror

As someone pointed out about magic missiles, you have to remember the 1st lvl spells´numeric variables (damage, duration, etc).

Those from the class you choose to not gain levels in will all suck at higher levels.

You can look for a PrC called the Eldritch Master, it's a sorcerer only Prc that casts lots of low level spells but starts to giive you access to other spell lists(like Paladin is probably the best).

In the end, the pay off with multiclassing with the wiz/sor is not worth the hassle. Sure the number of spells you can cast is neat, but what happens in the higher level bracket just does not help. Your party should drop a character like this at higher levels because the character has very little to offer.
 

Well, I don't think this charachter would work well in a typical game, but it's not unplayable. You could be akin to the stereotypical fledgling sorcerer who has great potential, but little current control over his powers. He could also work in a world where threats don't continue to get exponentially bigger, but where the challenge is more "realistic", i.e. the game is more about polotics, alliances, investigation, or anything but combat.


For a regular game, where power is essential, you might consider going 20-25 levels as one, then switching to the other.

Ok... I am playing a wiz1(illu)/sorcerer X in one game... He loses one level of firepower (not that much) and gains all those nifty lvl1 utility spells for creative spellcasters.

If you plan to keep sorcerer at lvl1, be sure to take two spells that don't depend on level for duration of damage. E.g. Endure elements. Or possibly colour spray (assuming your DC is fine). This boosts your firepower for higher levels.

So.. you get all those level 1 spells for your wizard. Only your wizard level(s) can be used to cast them. The sorceror spells per day can only cast the spells your sorceror "half" knows.
 


Plus, caster level for the eldritch master stacks, so a wiz5/sor5/em10 would cast at 15th level in each class, eventhough he'd have only low level spells.

I stand in a possition to say that a multiclassed wiz/sor is not a well balanced multiclassed character. Perhaps some house rule tweaking could be done to balance this out, but none comes to mind. Anyone else have an idea?
