Wizards of the Coast has released their new sci-fi TTRPG Exodus, which ties into the upcoming video game of the same name. This week, Wizards posted the Traveler's Handbook and the Exodus Encyclopedia for sale on their Exodus webpage. The new RPG was designed by James Ohlen, the lead developer of the Exodus video game as well as past hits like Baldur's Gate 2 and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Based on a free-to-download character sheet and a description of the TTRPG, it appears that the Exodus TTRPG uses the 5E game system, but with updates to make the game sci-fi themed. The Traveler's Handbook comes with four Exodus-themed classes, with two subclasses as well as various weapons and six powerful "Traveler Dynasties" that appear to be in-game factions. Meanwhile, the Exodus Enclyclopedia includes stat blocks for various constructs, Celestials, and human NPCS, as well as new items.

The Exodus video game is set to be released in 2026 and is intended to be a AAA video game available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Step into the dark, dangerous sci-fi world of EXODUS with the ultimate TRPG bundle! This set gives you everything you need to forge unforgettable characters, embark on interstellar missions, and launch epic tabletop adventures across the Centauri Cluster.

Is Mongoose going to sue them?

I mean I am curious. But also curious if Mongoose is going to sue them.
Here's hoping. It's clearly trying to tap that same crowd and even using similar verbiage. Be an international lawsuit though, so expensive. FFE could also sue and be in the same country.

Mostly, whatever this Exodus ends up being, maybe it will shine more light on the excellent Traveller RPG that has almost as much history behind it as D&D.

Say what you will of WOTC (most of it they brought it upon themselves), but at least they got this particular IP released without any issues, unlike a certain “next big thing” sci-fi IP that was so gloriously botched by the company assigned to release it, that they cancelled it altogether.

Now if WOTC would release a digital version of it, that would be great! Highly unlikely unless they release it via D&D Beyond.

In the meantime, there’s Carbon 2815, Star Wars 5E, etc., so we have choices.

PD - Love Traveller and the Cepheus System. Now if I could find someone to play online with, that would be grand.

On a related note, I wish early WotC had cracked that nut of creating a version of Space Opera that was equal to vanilla fantasy where gamers just jump in and play.

The old "Where forest do the elves live in now? Great, let's make characters" of fantasy ttrpgs vs. "Let me ask lots of questions about FTL travel and other tech questions and then tell the GM why that's all wrong" of space opera ttrpgs. I am exaggerating to make my point clearer.

Hmmm.....the idea to combine Carbon 2815+Exodus didn't come to mind......until now.
Is there even a way to get that legally still? I tried contacting two emails at the publisher and one was a boilerplate redirecting me to email other addresses and the other said the address I tried to contact didn't exist.

EDIT: Ignore, looks like it's still at DriveThruRPG.

Sitting back and enjoying the armchair IP lawyering by wholly unqualified people. Thanks for the laughs!

Curious to see where Exodus goes from here. I know the Traveler's Handbook made mention of the Encyclopedia. Does anyone know if any other books have been mentioned or teased?
