Wizard's Presents: Worlds and Monsters - Info on new and old settings?

I would love to see some actual sales figures on R&C. I want to know if its as low as I suspect.

I know that the book was delayed a week to my LGS because the distributor ran out. Either everyone assumed it would bomb of the book sold quite well.

I imagine that the book will concentrate on the design decisions relating to

making monsters more interesting for encounters,
integrating terrain and traps as part of encounters,
fixing how xp is awarded for encounters

i.e. how and why they are changing some of the underlying assumptions of building 'encounters' and the supplementary changes necessary to fix that.

Cheers

It's #19 on Amazon's bestseller list for Role Playing & Fantasy. That's ok, but not great. Several recent 3.5 books have sold better.

Amazing. When I opened the link, it was on number 8! How can that be on such a short notice?! (For D20 game products, from higher to lower: PHB 3.5, Starhips of the Galaxy, Grand History of the Realms, Races & Classes, Elder Evils, Rules Compendium...").

Certainly doesn't sound too bad.

Edit: Strangely enough, World & Monsters is listed as #14, even though it's only available via preorder!

EDIT: Scooped!

I doubt it. It's Ranked # 7 as of this post on Amazon for Books > SciFi/Fantasy > Gaming, #8 for Books > Entertainment > Puzzles & Games > Role Playing & Fantasy, and #4,268 in Books. It looks to be selling very well. As a barely advertised precursor to 4e, this really shows how popular the new edition could possibly turn out to be.

I preordered. Man, I hope I didn't preorder enough copies to push it up to #14!!!

I'm probably safe. :D

I pre-ordered both books the day after the 4E announcement, for what that's worth.

My hope for W&M is that it doesn't focus much on future settings. I really don't care what they do with FR, Eberron, etc. Plus, those things deserve their own books for people who play those settings. I guess I'd be OK with a page on each.

Continue the trend with underlying mechanics and design philosophies and some fluff background on major monsters and NPC races. How to build worlds with a 4E philosophy, how to design encounters with a 4E philosophy, etc.

A Question if you don't mind answering or querying

Why isn't there a cover image for Worlds and Monsters or whatever its called?

I mean according to Amazon its release date is the 15th of this month so why no covering image?

I have to admit this thread has made me wonder if this book is worth seriously looking at but at present the Starships of the Galaxy is more interesting to me even if the group i play with are die hard d6 star wars fans...

Hmm have to admit I am wondering what it'll be explaining although nothing yet interests me about Races & Classes even if that Shadowfell adventure does make me wonder if its worth it.

Many thanks for that link to amazon though!

It's quite possible that the "Worlds" in the title may just refer to the PoL setting and the various planes. But if nothing else, it would make sense for them to put a few pages (similar to the "Other Classes" or "Other Races" sections in R&C) on different campaign settings. If nothing else, I'm sure there will be info on Forgotten Realms.
