It's still ranked #8 for me, but also of note is that the #5 book is still the Players Handbook 3.5 (#2,945 overall). Jeez -- I wonder how many units that book has sold in it's lifetime.

Also, #7 is Rules Compendium, #9 4e PHB, #10 DMG 3.5.

If I am not mistaken, these numbers are all relative to recent sales and not an overall measurement.

You are correct. Interesting though. I'm surprised about where it is and what else is in there. The gurps stuff in 26-50 is the big shocker though.

The hungarian one, with the book wandering around for weeks before the actual release.
No way to stop that unless you want the kind of security that accompanies a Harry Potter release (and that level of security doesn't come cheap). Somebody is bound to know somebody who knows someone that works at a warehouse and can get that first somebody a copy beforehand. The Hungarian guy must know people in order to do that with R&C as well as FCII

Umm, he picked it up at a store. And I imagine that WotC clamped down on early releases after the leak. It's entirely possible that store was dropped down the distribution list (or even cut off the first release) as a penalty for failing to adhere to the street date on the last book.

Adhering to street dates is a serious business in publishing. It doesn't stop the kind of thing you're talking about, but as far as I know, that's not how anybody actually got "early" copies of Races and Classes.

Well, we did just go through the Christmas shopping season, and a lot of people who might be buying D&D books for kids who've expressed interest might not know that 4e is coming out next year. And even if they do, not everyone who buys a kid a present wants to wait until June.

And you're right, the numbers reflect recent sales. But that still means Races and Classes is selling just fine.

Do you think the next preview book, Wizard's Presents: Worlds and Monsters, will have info on which settings might be updated for the new edition and/or which new ones may be created?

I sure hope so! I would be very disappointed if there were only info on the default points of light setting. I guess the 'Worlds' in the title is a plural form, so I can at least hope for more than that.

As an aside, nobody managed to scoop the book this time? It is already January 2008...
I'll bet good money the book will focus on the new core setting, but will give some teasers for the Realms, and maybe also Eberron if we're lucky. As the Realms hardcover will be coming out later that summer, and Eberron not till next year, I think it's a good bet.

While they might mention what we already know, that WotC plans to release one setting a year, I doubt they'll give us anything concrete like "Dark Sun in 2010!"

Hope they have some actual stats in there. Maybe some poWaHzz!! for monsters. And I hope we see what the beholders get instead of their disintegration eyestalk.

WHAT? I missed this! No disintegration eyestalk?
