Wizard's Presents: Worlds and Monsters - Info on new and old settings?

Not in any business I've worked for, and I've worked for some highly secretive companies.

Stuff arrives at different times in different parts of the world. Foreign vendors don't really care that much about the official release date for niche products.

It's not the end of the world. I'm sure WotC is plenty happy with getting any Hungarian revenue at all and the worst thing that came out of it is ... people discussed the book, which was the whole point of the exercise.

I concur in detail.

I would love to see some actual sales figures on R&C. I want to know if its as low as I suspect.

I was in like 8 book stores in Philadelphia and a bunch of gaming stores looking for it. Most of them told me they sold out the first day. Based on that, the book seems to have done really well, but its only a small slice of the overall market.

The hungarian one, with the book wandering around for weeks before the actual release.

I wouldn't consider that a fiasco. A fiasco is like "Star Wars" starring the Marx Brothers or the events leading to WWI.

Distributors are sold out right now. We can't get copies and every other retailer I have spoken to can not get copies.

Umm, he picked it up at a store. And I imagine that WotC clamped down on early releases after the leak. It's entirely possible that store was dropped down the distribution list (or even cut off the first release) as a penalty for failing to adhere to the street date on the last book.

Adhering to street dates is a serious business in publishing. It doesn't stop the kind of thing you're talking about, but as far as I know, that's not how anybody actually got "early" copies of Races and Classes.

They were on the shelves of all the local B&N 5 days before the official release date and so was Elder Evils and new DTs.

Do you think the next preview book, Wizard's Presents: Worlds and Monsters, will have info on which settings might be updated for the new edition and/or which new ones may be created?

I sure hope so! I would be very disappointed if there were only info on the default points of light setting. I guess the 'Worlds' in the title is a plural form, so I can at least hope for more than that.

As an aside, nobody managed to scoop the book this time? It is already January 2008...

I would have loved it if the book had contained a two or three page essay on each of the TSR settings as well as Eberron. However, the description makes it sound like this will be the kind of book that most people can live without...

...or at least on the TSR settings that may be updated to 4E. ;)

Wow, I must say I am impressed. I did not realize the book would be that popular.

I actually hope that it is mostly PoL fluff. I don't really have a great desire to go with Forgotten Realms or Eberron and I loved the fluff they had in R&C.

Forgotten Realms and Eberron will certainly come out, but I would like to see more on the other old TSR settings that might be updated given the one setting per year philosophy.
