Wizard's red dragon

I stopped at one gargantuan and one colossal. I can't justify spending that much money that I will use fairly rarely. I did get the red at the preorder amazon price... I want to say $25, and $14 for the black. Without that steep discount I would not have bought them at all.

I have the black dragon Mini and I really like it but I did not like the red one at all. It is nearly $100 and it seems like it does not have that much detail on it. I see it won the origin award. Am I in the minority on this one.

At gen-con the put a red LED in its mouth and that added some character to the mini but still $100?

I paid $74 at Borders. I'm sure I could've gotten it cheaper elsewhere.

I think it is well worth what I paid for it. Simply beautiful.

Next I plan on either buying two Blacks or one Black and one Blue. I've never really cared for the look of the Blue dragon in 3e (did they look better in older editions? I don't remember)... but I'd rather have two different looking gargantuans.

I have all three of them, but I never paid retail for any of them. I do think the $75 neighborhood is too much for any single mini that I can only use in ridiculously high-powered games, but I'm still glad I got it at the price I did (can't remember the details off the top of my head, but I got it for around $30).

I do agree that it could use some more tonal ranges, the claws, teeth, and some of the horns at least should be different colors. I'd like to see more depth in the underscales though. The pose does look weird, but it's never really bothered me that much. Still, I'm satisfied with the product... Satisfied, but not impressed either. Besides the scale, it has the same quality as all the other D&D miniatures.

I am gearing up to run a game where epic-level characters are going to fight all the gargantuan/colossal dragons, so I'll get some mileage out of them.

To me that WOTC red is just horrible. The godawful pose alone destroys any coolness about it.

I use McFarlane dragons for huge dragon minis, much, much better looking and a lot cheaper.

Ouch, I really wish that I didn't know some of ya got your Colossal Reds for under $30...

I'll see if I can find some of the McFarlane Dragons. My niece has a B-day coming up.

I've been working on a Volcanic Lair for my Col Red lately... :D

Ah, you're from Germany, too! :)
Here it's 25 € for the red and 12 € for the black. I got the latter out of curiousity, but it's doubtful it'll actually see some use. A smaller one would have been more useful to me...

me and a friend won one of each at a 'dungeon delve' competition. I dunno if id actually pay a lot for them as i cant see myself using them

i do like them though

I guess if you were running a high level D&D game and wanted to use a Colossal Red Dragon, it'd be the bee's knees. Though at $30, it'd need to be a recurring villain and it'd have to recur at least 10 times.

I don't know, I don't mind spending $30 for a mini I'll conceivably use once or twice. I've spent more than $30 on a bottle of wine for dinner before, much less the entire meal itself. And gaming is at least as important as dating, right? :)

So, does anyone have any links as to where one could pick up a Red fairly cheaply? The price tag was the biggest hurdle for me in picking one up.

With Regards,
Flynn
