Wizards Sells Off GenCon!

Wow. After everything that's happened, that's all I can say.

Scary, isn't it?

Is this the last big news from Wizards for a while, or are the stories going to just keep coming?

Well, Morris did say it was a slow weekend about 2 weeks ago. Since then the news has picked up quite a bit.

Coincidence? :D

Just think of the heart-rending choice they had to make:

Save money by cutting even more employees, or

Make a pile of dough by selling GenCon.

I think this is excellent news. Three cheers!

I'll bet they started trying to sell GenCon way before making the recent round of cuts, and probably even started the process as soon as they bought TSR. And for all we know, they might have had to make more cuts if they didn't succeed in selling it. So yeah, I'm cheering.

Wouldn't it be weird if he were to buy back the D&D property from WotC...?

That's so bizarre it might just happen. :)

What a strange week it's been. It started with Doom and Despair at the WotC lay-offs... and has become quite positive recently with the Dragonlance license and the selling of GenCon.

Only one thing more would make my year: an agreement that allows fans to use Wizards trademarks & PI legally.

Cheers!

Yep, this is just what I'm saying.

Boo that!

Yet another example of how Hasbro doesn't understand the adult gaming market. They probably think GenCon is just another trade show and attending it will be just as profitable as running it, not seeing it as the fan event it has become for many gamers.

And the band played on.

It would be fabulous if Peter Adkinson were to by back D&D.I've never liked the idea of it being in the hands of a large corporation to them its just another product not something to care about personally. And they only care about the bottom line.

By the way Morrus do you ever sleep its 11 Pm in the eastern US what is it 4 am in the UK

That sounds about right. It's 3 pm here in Australia, and we're currently +11 GMT. (Stupid Daylight Time!!! We're past the equinox, dammit!)

Morrus isn't allowed to sleep this week - there's been way too much news coming out. :)

Cheers!

I, on the other hand hope that Peter brings it back to WI :) I am from WI, as you all can tell. :) Although, I think Madison would be a better and easier location for people to attend a convention...

One can hope :)
