Wizkid's HeroClix is awesome, but NBC's Heroes sucks

I was very surprised to hear this, but if it is successful and opens the way for Heroes gaming products, that would be outstanding.

I mean a game tie in with a TV show that has broad appeal outside of gaming demographics? That would be outstanding!

It's sure a lot better than a lame "board game based on a tv show" that companies are constantly doing.

Many of you know that I am an avid player of Wizkids HeroClix. Few of you know that I am an avid hater of NBC's Heroes.

Now, my worst nightmare has come true:

"WizKids Inc., a subsidiary of Topps and creator of the award-winning "Clix" Collectible Miniatures Game system, will be adding [NBC's] Heroes into their HeroClix line..."

In fairness, I think this is good for HeroClix. It will attract new players and sets up for future crossover potential.

But man I can't stand that show. I don't want to see Peter Petrelli and Sylar in HeroClix form.

That's too bad. If you had the exact opposite opinion, much like I do, you probably couldn't care less about this news, much like I do.

So, wait, a minis combat game based around Heroes...

So, the set will have what, 3 actual combatants? or will the sucky's get guns?

Everyone will want Claire, sure, but what will she do, Heal At You?

Sylar, Peter, Hiro and....

Anyway, I maybe could understand a Heroes RPG or such, but heroclix seems the totally wrong format for the series. Combat ability goes counter to most of the cast.

Radioactive Man FTW! And don't forget Nicky.

Honestly, the fact that, if marketed right, it can bring in new gamers, I'm all for it. Although mini gamers tend to not jump into RPG games, there is the possibility for interest in passing picking up the packs.

The most recent HeroClix box set -- Legion of Superheroes -- has a special surprise inside -- SHRINKING VIOLET (SV)! Not only that, SV comes as a pog-only figure. That's right, there is no figure at all, just the dial! (they did not advertise this at all).

They did the same thing a few years ago for Invisible Woman and Antman.

I could very sell see the same thing done for for Chris Eccelston's character (Dr who), since his power was Invisibility!

(yeah, that would be pretty darned cool if you ask me, even if it is a repeated one-trick pony)

I did forget Nicki, but Radioactive Man was dead, so discounted him, but it's possible.

So, now we're up to 5 figures, woohoo! :-p

Clear plastic for invisible types for me, a blank base is just cheapening it IMO. For the shrinkers, that's fine though.

Interesting; we seem to share the same ideas, but for differnet reasons. As a current fan of "Heroes" (the TV show), and a former avid player of "Heroclix"...

Color me completely unimpressed with this announcement.

In fairness, I think this is good for HeroClix. It will attract new players and sets up for future crossover potential.

Personally, I think it's "too little, too late" for Heroclix. (Though I would assuredly pick up a "Fin Fang Foom" in a heartbeat if they did one!!)

Out of morbid curiosity, though, I WOULD be interersted in seeing what the power levels of the Heroes figs are in comparison to the existing figs. Will they be comporable in power level to the "Infiinty Challenge" or subject to the power-creep of later sets?

It's sure a lot better than a lame "board game based on a tv show" that companies are constantly doing.

Personally, I'd much rather see a video-game or board-game for "Heroes", rather than a "Heroclix" expansion.
