WOC can be nice.../taking care of troops

I'm sure that if some people want to put a "care package" together I can find out what address it needs to be sent to. Just let me know if there is some interest, and I'll look into it.

I will definitely send my friend the URL for this thread. He doesn't have lots of time to be browsing through the message board, but I'm sure he'd have fun reading the thread and sharing it with the other gamers over there.

I'll be sure and try to convince my friend to a least send me updates (which I'll try to post). It sounds like he'll most likely run Sunless Citadel, as that's a pretty good starting adventure for a DM who's never used D&D before (but who is fairly experienced in other systems). He's also a little nervous about the number of players. He says there's one other DM with any kind of experience, and they each may have anywhere from 5 to 15 players... eek!

Thanks to those who welcomed me. I'm actually a rather excessive lurker. I don't have a lot of time to post usually, but I figured this story was definitely worth sharing.

You get me an address and I will send out some stuff for him.

I am sure we could arrange a care package as well.

I think it is nice that you and Paladin are helping out some gamers who are several thousand miles away from home.

AStott, do let us know how things are going with your friend and his players. Sometimes the little things that tie us back to our homes mean a lot when you are far away.

Any ideas on how we can come up with 30-60 sets of dice for the players overseas to put in the bags we will be glad to make for them? I think 1-2 sets per person ought to be a good start, don't you? Do you all think we should send the same bag or 30 different ones?...Paladinwife

Here's the address. If it looks bizarre, that's because it's a military address. They handle the forwarding...

Sgt. James M. Hinton
AVUM TF 1-183 AVN
APO AE 09789

Wait a minute!

The easiest way would be for an online retailer (like the EN World Store--hint, hint) to accept payments, and then either (1) send all the dice to Gamer's Bag, or (2) get bags from Gamer's Bag. Then assemble and ship to APO address.

Well, that's the easiet way, barring a donation from a dice manufacturer or retailer. :)

I'll pay for 2 sets of dice toward the cause. Just let me know when it's set up where to send the funds.

Hey, that is awesome.

But can a WotC person confirm this happened?

Yep. We got the mail in and tried to rack our brains for an easy way to get them what they wanted. Then finally said, heck with it we'll just send them the stuff.

Reasons: 1) It was a good thing to do 2) Good PR but not marketing PR more like "consumers in the military PR" (people in the military are perfect consumers - not much money, lots of time, limited mobility) 3) We really couldn't think of any other way to get them what they needed - and we just couldn't stomach the idea that there was a crowd of guys hunkered down in Bosnia who wanted to game but couldn't because they didn't have our books. (probably should have sent them dice, damn didn't think of it).

I just talked to a MAJOR dice manufacturer, they're going to get back with me soon and see what they can do (my contact has to talk with the big boss). As soon as I hear something I'll let everyone know.:D
