Are they abandoning this product? I thought surely they would put out a new book for the movie. it looks as if they are concentrating only on a mini game.

I would love someone to put out a mini's game for vehicles. I would buy a battle of Hoth mini game in a second.

There's some decent fan material here:

http://www.swrpgnetwork.com/index.php?

However, it seems that after displaying a dogged determination to release mostly boring region-focused books (the Geonosis book? WTF?) they just gave up.

It's really too bad - the Cartoon Network Clone Wars cartoons seemed to have created a wealth of new material for the RPG, and Episode III is just around the corner. Who doesn't want D20 stats for the Republic Gunships, the new starfighters, or any of the myriad new NPCs and powers that are re-emerging into the public consciousness?

From what I understand, Wizards isn't happy about how much Lucas' liscencing fees is gouging their profits. Scuttlebutt was that, as soon as they fulfilled their contract, they wanted out of it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're obligated to release a new edition when the third prequel comes out, and they get out of SW RPG for good at that point, focusing on the minis game.

They now put out their catalog of releases for the rest of the year, no SW-RPG books planned for the forseeable future. Now planned for at least a year and a half of no releases.

Also, Lucasfilm may ask less for rights & royalties for an RPG once Star Wars isn't producing movies all the time. LFL may still be making tv, novels, and licensing other tie-ins, but with the prequels over they probably won't be commanding as much for the royalties. LFL may be asking a lot, but they're also asking it during the big rush of Star Wars merchandising, while in a year or two things may have died down (and it's a lot easier to write RPG source material once all the movies have been made, since the Clone Wars and the time between the Prequel and Original Trilogy have been traditional verboten territory for EU authors).

WotC could be taking a longer-term view of it, wait until the property cools off in the mass-market eyes, but they know that the Star Wars gaming community is less tied to the prequel hype and will buy the game even without Star Wars trailers in theaters, TV series on Cartoon Network, and the prequel hype. After all, WotC knows that d6 SW did remarkable sales during the mid-90's, predating much of the modern Star Wars Expanded Universe (Timothy Zahn was sent RPG sourcebooks when he was contracted to write Heir to the Empire and told to use that as source materials), and WotC knows (or could pretty easily figure out) that their books aren't selling that well because most of their dedicated fans have bought all the books out there already, and are just sitting around waiting patiently for more. It's all a waiting game.

All we know is that the line is currenlty in limbo. ANYTHING AT ALL beyond that at this point is pure speculation.
Yep. But there's so much *good* material out there again that needs stats attached to it!

I want Star Wars RPG books! I know nothing...but I can hope.

:)

Oh, I agree. :)

But you do know that the Republic Gunships have stats in the Revised Core Book, yes? As for the Clone Wars stuff, that needs to stay OUT of the RPG. Its insanely flashy, godlike stuff that's great to watch, but we've already had Jedi Gods in the WEG d6 version.

The gunship stats are in the revised book? Ugh! I was just reading that, where are they?

I agree, it'd be nice to get an Ep III book, but not holding breath.
