WoD Vamps in D20 DND/Modern

I thought about it, myself. The clans would be class and race combined (or the race would be "human vampire" and the clans would be class and starting occupation. Or something).

Hey

My group and I tried to do it. The concept was to use D20 Modern as is, and then made a 20-level "vampire" advanced class with the prerequisite of having been Embraced. It was a very loose interpretation of V:tM, where vamps that emphasized their human sides would have more levels of D20M classes, while more "vampiric" characters had more Kindred levels. We also threw together a ghoul class as well. The spell-thingies-whose-name-escape-me-right-now (Dominate et al) were feats that you put special skill points in (a la Star Wars Force skills). Blood points healed 5 hit points of damage, or added 4 to Str, Dex or Con, etc. Willpower = fate points, or whatever D20M calls 'em.

Generation was a problem. A feat wouldn't work, cause people would just take it every chance they got. And letting someone just pick it is a bad idea too. We never really got around to solving that one because we were just converting pre-existing characters.

Best of luck

Yeah, I always figured the clans would work well as classes. Maybe like a D20 Modern class, with Feats every odd level and Talents every even level. But instead of Talents, you get the Disciplines.

So when you get a Talent, you can use it to get, say, "Cloak of Shadows", from Obfuscation. Then when you get your next Talent, you can either get "Unseen Presence", which is the next Obfuscation power on the list, or the first power on the list of another Discipline. Say "Obfuscate" from under Obtenebration.

As for race, make a template for each Vampire Clan, which gives you all the abilities shared by every member of that clan, and allowing for that Vampire to start off with a couple of Discipline abilities right away.

Wouldn't a bunch of prestige classes based on the clans (a fast hero/adv: vampire/Brujah) with feat trees mimicing the clan disciplines work?

Hell, I'd try and run a WoD/d20 Modern game if there were some solid rules to follow.

I think it'd be better to replace Talents, rather than Feats. Can't quantify my reasons for why I think so right now, but I feel that it fits better for Talents to be replaced for Disciplines, rather than Feats. Though good point about Advanced/Prestige Classes.

How about the various Vampire Templates give you additional Talents to choose from? The Vampire Template will list the various Disciplines available to a member of so-and-so Clan, then it'll allow for you to choose a certain amount at character creation. You can then replace Talents for additional Disciplines at later levels.

Then when you meet certain requirements, you can begin progressing in an Advanced Class for your Clan, which'll allow you to take Discipline powers more frequently, as well as increasing your vampiric powers (Strength, Speed, etc). How does that sound? Huh. Now all of a sudden I've got the urge to go through my Vampire: The Dark Ages book and start looking at ways that I can convert the thing.
