Wolf animal companion as a mount?

So, should there be a higher penalty for trying to ride underfed animals who smell food?

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the -5 check penalty for an unusual mount was for something like a bipedal creature?

I don't think a wolf would be a particularly unusual mount (similar to riding dog, and goblins ride Worgs), buy my character will probably still face a -5 check penalty from riding bareback.

I'm not sure I want to leave my wolf companion fully saddled....

Here's a simple solution: Have multiple versions of the Ride skills for various types of creatures. Horses and poneys would be the default, while others would be different skills, like Ride (riding dog) or Ride (worg) or Ride (Giant Eagle)

That's exactly what we did, and the -5 for riding bareback seemed enough for our halfling druid w/wolfie.
