Wolfgang Baur's "Kobold Quarterly" 'zine

Saw this.

Subscribed instantly.

I'm very much looking forward to this :). One question, though: The subscription is valid for one year, correct? After that, does it renew automatically, or would I have to subscribe a second time?

Just to confirm: will this be pdf only, or a print magazine? I love your stuff, but would not subscribe to a pdf mag for the same reason I will not be using WOTC's digital intiative. Print is not dead (yet)!

I agree completely that print is not dead, and I'm working to figure out the best strategy for bringing Kobold to a print form. At the moment, it's too early to say whether print will be viable for a small-circulation zine.

Once I have print costs figured out, I'll absolutely announce that as well and see whether all the noise about print translates into subscriptions. I suspect that print will cost $30 or more for a 1-year subscription, because the print run will be small and there's no ad support (yet).

I went with PDF because I wanted to keep this to be affordable for all gamers, worldwide. For $12 a year for charter subscribers, it's a pretty good deal.

Thanks for subscribing!

I'm offering the $12/year rate now to see how many folks are interested. If the project does survive beyond the first year (and statistically, most magazines don't live that long), I'll absolutely send out reminder notices and offer multi-year subscription deals.

My apologizes if this is slightly off-topic, I promise its only *slightly*:

I'm intrigued by the Open Design being done on the site, but paying $75 site-unseen is a bit steep. If I were to pay the standard $30 donation and decided I'm willing to shell out the extra $45 to upgrade to patron, could I do that, or would I have to make a separate $75 donation?

As for KQ, I'll probably be subscribing in the next couple of weeks, it sounds very promising.

You can upgrade your account later on. I did.

However, he wants to check out the project and then upgrade. Since the project is over at that point, I doubt it's likely.

One thing to remember is the Open Design was created as a way for the patrons to have input into an exclusive project (how exclusive has varied from project to project). It really wasn't intended as a standard "buy this adventure" type project. Because of demand it has moved a bit in that direction (which I'm not entirely convinced is a good idea, but I'm not convinced it's bad, either). However, it's still a unique opportunity, at least as of now.

Kobold Quarterly has some ties to the project. However, it clearly is separate with different goals. In fact, I get the vibe that Wolfgang would be satisfied if it grows into a replacement for Dragon at some level.

Wow, this looks great! I just subscribed, and I'm looking forward to the first issue...which reminds me, when does the first issue come out?
