Nighthawk, my sentiments are similar to yours. I found Wonderfalls very watchable, only caught a couple of episodes. I probably would not have become a dedicated viewer, but would have watched when I was in the mood to watch a quirky, good show.
But the point is that I now refuse to start watching any new show on Fox. Who wants to become involved in an ongoing story, only to have it yanked out from under you? Fox used to be the inovative, different network, willing to try new things and give them a chance. They brought us the Simpsons and X-Files, among others.
Maybe I just don't understand network television. Are viewers are so mindless that they can no longer watch anything with a plot, and will flock to mindless crap.
Note that I don't mean that as an insult. I watch my share of mindless crap too, but I just can't imagine that it makes the best economic sense to not show the remainder of a series at all. At the least, when they cancel a show like this they could offer the unaired episodes at 3 a.m., and let the viewers who care tape or Tivo them.
