Wood Elf Ranger->Dread Commando help

Dread and you don't have a way to reliably take advantage of sudden strike.
This is why I am going to speak to my DM about making it SA instead of SS. It is easier to pull offf when it is SA.

I think the group benefits that come with the PrC will be fun to play.
The DM is open to PRC Tweaking(ie pre req feats) do you guys have any reasonable suggestions I could make that might make it more streamlined for my Ranger to get into it?

i wouldn't expect him to agree if he's an experienced gamer. SS is different from SA for a reason. so making it easier is more like making it cheesier here.

dodge and mobility are prereqs for spring attack, a feat that you might consider taking. changing the prereqs to suit your build better kinda defeats the purpose of those prereqs in the first place.

Wrong. Power Attack doesn't usually work with light weapons. A bastard sword is not a light weapon.

That's correct. For some reason I thought it was light and off-hand weapons. In any case, at least I had (incorrectly) made it a houserule anyway, so no one got shafted. I still don't know if it's a great idea. The -2 penalty already hurts for TWF, though I suppose it would help with versatility -- against a foe with high DR, stow away one sword, two-hand the other, and use PA to still be effective.

it could work well with HiPS if you take a level of shadowdancer. just imagine, you spring from the shadows, strike the foe (SA and SS applied) and spring back into the shadows. perfect lurking death.

ok. What about in a non-shadowdancer build?

The big dilema I am having is that even though we have a Paladin in the party, it will be up to me to do all the big fighting. I have played with this group of people for 10+ years now and I just know how it breaks down. The person playing the Paladin has very cool themes for his characters but they are average at best when it comes to playing. That's fine though. He has fun with them and we all enjoy playing with each other.

In reality though I think the Fighter/rogue and I will be doing most of the damage in fights. that why I think it would be useful for both of us to have some SA ability and what not. We both have huge bonuses to our Initiatives so we will usually be able to hti first or position ourselves first to flank and kill things.

ok, lets do this then.
If you are going to make a TWF focused Wood Elf Ranger and you would like to make him a monster in combat...
What feats would you take?

equipment/magic items?

Personally I don't like to cherry pick levels of this that and the other, but if that's whats needed don't be afraid to post your build here. Thanks again, folks. I do appreciate your input.

In general, you want stuff that lets you full attack: Boots of Sidestepping, Lion Totem Barbarian 1 for pounce (C.Champion), etc...; and stuff that gives a bonus to all your damages: ranger favored enemy bonus, SA, etc... The latter point being to look for things that are more advantageous to you than a 2H weapon fighter. A greatsword fighter doesn't get much out of +1d6 SA because he likely is only attacking once/round anyway. You get it to all your attacks, so it can quickly add up. The Ranger spell list in Spell Compendium has some very nice spells to help with this. Blades of Fire is a level 1 swift action spell that adds 1d8 fire damage to ALL your attacks (with up to two weapons) for a round, for example. If you're getting four attacks a round, that's pretty good.

One thing I recommend if your DM is good about giving you encounters with your favored enemies is to take ImprovedFavored Enemy (+3 damage against favored enemies) and ask the DM for a 3.5 version of Extra Favored Enemy. Something simple, like "Add a new favored enemy at a +2 bonus." Take that once or twice, and if you can cover the majority of enemies you encounter with your selection, you'll have +5 or more damage against most foes. As for which to pick, it depends on what the DM uses, only do this if he seems to mostly use the same 4 or 5 types of monsters. Magical Beast is generally a huge selection pool, it's always my favorite to pick in general.
