I don;t know about any SW books, but I know that it's a big issue for the wookiee(sp?) in Knights of the Old Republic.

I know that the novels are part of "Continuity" but not "Canon" from the starwars website.

Games however are part of neither.

So I'd need a diffrent source on that.

Maybe wookies dont use their claws on one another....but..

And just because they dont find it appropriate, doesnt mean they dont HAVE it.
Timothy Zahn trilogy....I think Dark Force Rising...whenever Leia is on the Wookiee homeworld. Go ahead and stat it up, but also list that pretty much no wookiee would ever use it in combat, goes against the whole Wookiee honor thing.

On your comment about canon vs continuity below...I just posted about that on a thread about Dark Sun/SpellJammer in Dungeon. I understand the difference but it's really just a case of semantics. If Lucas says a book is good to go, it's part of the continuity and therefore until it is dissed in something official by Georgie, is pretty much set in stone.

A lot of Star Wars stuff has been nixed by george in statements or the movies...like how he said late last year that all the STs in the original series were clones. That messes up several stories in the books. Canon/continuity is all basically the same stuff, just different words.

He's not playing a Good Wookie, its up to the DM in the end. I'm just rules. :-p

I'll have to go get my books to confirm what you're saying. And I belive ya. But they definatly should get it, with just a note attached that most wookies, and "all good wookies" think its dishonorable and will never use them.

That point aside, i've always felt that a Wookies stats should have been +4 Str, +2 Dex, +2 Con, +2 Int, -4 Wis, -2 Charisma

(with at least a +1 LA)

"wookies are extremly strong and hearty, and tend to be quite agile and limber from evolving on a world with trees that grow miles high. They are also highly intelligent and good with technology. However they are quick to anger and its not easy to gain their trust. They dont deal well with other races, and their speach problems contribute to this. However, when a wookie does make friends, if you gain their trust, you have it for life."

this is all IMO, Maybe i'm being two generous. I guess you COULD drop the int bonus.

Dude, you're playing in a campaign with a pixie, genie kin and a green tongued ranger...and you're arguing star wars "canon". :\

rug lovers

it's in the sw d20 book, that wookies who use claws are considered insane by wookie society.

course, it could be worse, there could be an ewok in the party....

Yeah drop the Int bonus

So Str +4 Dex +2 Con +2 Charisma - 4 ECl +1

and do they get a Rend ability? surely a key item of established Wookie lore is their ability to tear peoples arms off...

Yup... The claws are where they get the bonus to the +2 bonus to the Climb skill from.

Another example from Star Wars Galaxies Stratics, Species Profile: Wookiee

They have retractable claws on their feet and on their hands, which they use only for climbing. To use their claws in hand-to-hand combat is considered dishonorable in their culture and is strictly forbidden.

Points that should be made about Wookies:

1- They're a pacifist race
2- They're (obviously) from the Star Wars universe
3- They still have free will

Points that should be made about THIS Wookie:

1- He's not really a Wookie, as there are no "Wookies" due to this being a D&D campaign. It likely won't change much, but as soon as you start mixing and matching and the lines become blurred, you can essentially do anything you want.

2- He's a Wookie Babarian. A Wookie being a Barbarian in the first place means that he's not a pacifist, like the rest of the Wookies. He's more prone to rage and well suited to combat.

3- Rob (the player), also has freewill. Even forgetting about my first two points concerning his character, if he wanted to play a Wookie that used his claws to tear little kittens into mincemeat and then feed it to a blind lame poodle, I would let him. It's like in the monster manual when you see the alignment for a particular creature. That's the -usual- case and there are always exceptions.

So yeah, that is that.
