What is the flavour of your homebrew campaign setting/world?

Sword and Sorcery, scarce magic world with many regions still untamed and unexplored. Heavy Norse, Celtic, Germanic, Mongolian influences. Eastern lands and the mysterious south are the stuff of legends and rumors. Humanity thrives, but must live in remote and highly defensible locations as much of the world is dominated by beasts that are akin to earliest pre-historic mammals. Many of these beasts are much more cunning than mere animals and great herds of gigantic beasts still roam the lands (and many preditors in their wake). Monsters and other supernatural creatures are becoming increasingly common as well, but why is still a mystery...

Mankind has learned to be very inventive as far as farming and constructing settlements and defenses. Many of their cities are marvellous feats of engineering - Nareldyr, the City of Gardens, built among natural forming pinnacles of stone and linked by nearly 100 bridges. Their hanging gardens and terraced farming are very clever indeed and are home to nearly 20,000. Others are build on mountainsides, atop pleateus, underground, in great rifts, treetowns, cliff-town ports, and so on...

Oh, and for Joshua, there are Lovecraftian undertones sown in as well... ;)

A well designed poll, with the multiple choices, I think I picked about 5.

And it is interesting to see that 11 others (at this point) are also "set on Earth"...

...though its is a High Fantasy, Swords and Sorcery, D&D earth...
 

Mine tastes like Pocky.

Actually, it's more like samurai manga flavored with ninja, oni, spirits, psions, monks, shamen, and automatons, and then shaken with plenty of cracked ice.

Swords and sorcery feel. This is the age of ADVENTURE! (said in booming announcer voice...)

Dark Ages (and if I may pick a nit this should've been on the list as separate from medieval... :\ ) to medieval technology.

Scarce magic.

Culture groups have a vaguely Arabic, African, and Central Asian feel - only one group that's even remotely European (Finnish - no more Celts and Romans in fantasy clothing, thank you! :p )
 



My homebrew is part classical, part medieval. The primary countries are like Romae and Greece but more advanced (a couple hundred years). I also have nearby countries that simulate England, France, Spain, Egypt, and Israel. Lots of intrigue in my campaign.

King Arthur Meets Conan

My homebrew is set in late 5th century Britain. This is a perfect time and place to set a pseudohistorical game. Just after the fall of the Roman Empire and just before the supposed rise of Arthur and his defiance of the Anglo-Saxon invaders who eventually renamed the land.

The parents of the important characters of the Arthurian legend are the NPCs who run the kingdoms vying for dominance of Britain. Picts and Scoti raid the Cymri in the north while the Saxons expand their territories in the south. The British way of life is dying. In the midst of it all, Londinium thrives as a home for ruthless merchants, cutthroat thieves, and rival scholars out to dominate the intellectual rhetoric of the day.

The potential of magical power is immense but requires much more skill than most characters can muster. Much low-level magic works in subtle, unseen ways. Some magic does not work quite so well as one would see in the 3.x rules. There are monsters, but most of the evil that PCs have to contend with is bred and spread by humanity itself.
