World ideas that you think are lame

Mystical, unknown lands in magic heavy worlds.

Patchwork quilt worlds like FR where cultures that would have wiped each other out in the real world survive side by side peacefully.

Worlds with generic, boring gods like Greyhawk.

Agreed, if there is one setting that should have never seen the light of day due to its blandness, it is Kalamar. I could care less about realistic geography.

I have an active dislike of "realistic geography" in fantasy worlds. Who says that the Elves didn't bring this forest to Point A to serve as a bastion against the predations of the Orcs on Kingdom B? Who says that Archmage X and Y's spellduel centuries ago didn't lay waste and create a blasted desert at Point C, or a mountain, out of place, at Point D?
 

I have real problems with mixing magic and tech. I detest blatant anachronisms. Gunpowder, trains... for me, these mess up my conception of a D&D fantasy world. I know it's kind of silly, but it's a hard barrier for me to get over.

This is a peeve of mine, too. My campaign world is one in which there is no technology -- the underlying fabric of reality doesn't allow automation without intelligence. There is only craft -- and the highest level of craft is magic.

I'm trying to flesh out what a world would look like if all power were personal (via magic) and not institutional (via technology). In other words, what a world would look like that had D&D rules.

I like things like steam tech in D&D. And how can there be an anachronism in D&D. Most D&D worlds are not in any way related yo our own. So, there cannot really be any anachromisms.
 

Another thing i also dislike is how a lot of people assume you use the planes. If i were to have a homebrew world, i would not have any planes at all. Not even the Astral or the Ethereal planes. Yes, i relaize magic would be changed a lot, but i would deal with it while making the setting.
