World Map

mps42

First Post
I am (once again) trying to put together a campaign. Problem: Absolutely NO artistic skills whatsoever. So I am looking for a cheap or free way to make my world map and other similar things.
All suggestions appreciated.

I think, not knowing just HOW much "no art skillz" you suffer from, that you can't help but find helpful stuff at zombienirvanagames if you've got Photoshop (isn't there a free version floating around somewhere, anyone?)

The big bonus of photoshop mapping is, you can churn out some reasonably decent cartography without having any actual artistic skill, because PS is such a nicely powerful tool. It does a fair job of holding your hand and walking you across the job if you can learn a few tricks about how to use it.

Don't know about a free version of Photoshop itself, but The GIMP is a free (GNU) Photoshop "clone" that can do most of the things PS can.
And, yes, the tutorials at Zombienirvanagames are awesome!
Might take a little tweaking to do the same things with GIMP, though.

Others do worse when they're around me as my black hole of art skills sucks their skills away as well, leaving naught but the memory of the pieces they have created and the bitter bile of hatred for me as they mourn the the ones they now never will.

That being said, I DO have Photoshop and have begun going through the stuff at ZombieNirvana. My Photoshop isn't EXACTLY like the one used but it's close enough to deal with.

Thanks guys. :)

Adobe started working on a free, ad-supported, Google Docs-style online version of Photoshop earlier this year, but I haven't heard any news on it as of late.

Except for the very first episode, I've been recording all the episodes with Photoshop 7, so as long as you have PS7 or later, they should work just the same! :) A few menus look a little different in the CS versions, and a couple of keyboard shortcuts have changed*, but that's it.

*The one that drives me nuts is clipping masks. I still hit Ctrl-G in PS3 to create one, but it's been changed to Alt-Ctrl-G. Grr!

Excuse me for having spit out food all over my computer as I laughed out loud from this!

PS: mps4s, you owe me a new keyboard!

It's okay, I dug out the chewed Pringles nuggets from between the keys once they dried. All's well!
