Worldcon/Noreascon 4 in Boston

Did you write an entry to the WotC "War Torn" novel contest?

Are you going to Noreascon 4?

Bring a copy of your 10 page writing sample. We can have an Eberron reading event.

Any who are interested, let me know which day of the con would be best for you (friday, saturday, sunday, monday).

I will admit that “Worldcon” is not a major gaming con, but there were some.

Most of the game companies brought card & board type games, such as:

• Blood and Cardstock Games: Counting Zzz & Showbiz
• Castle Perilous Games: Who Stole Ed’s Pants
• Cheapass Games: Brawl, Gimmie the Brain, Girl Genius: The Works & Kill Dr. Lucky
• Eight Foot Llama: Monkeys on the Moon
• Infinity Games: Thud: The Discworld Board Game
• Steve Jackson Games: Car Wars, Chez Geek, Dinohunt, Illuminati:Crime Lords, Munchkin, NinjaBurger & X-Bugs
• WizKids: HeroClix, MechWarrior & Sportsclix
• Z-Man Games: Grave Robbers from Outer Space

In addition various GM’s ran Shadowrun, Call of Cthulhu & Toon RPG

Balsamic Dragon’s husband ran a Discworld game (using Gurps system) and at least one game of Paranoia.

One of the features of the weekend was the opportunity to play Deryni Adventure by Grey Ghost Games (using Fudge system) with Katherine Kurtz, Author of the Deryni series of novels.

Also I was speaking to the author Glen Cook, and he mentioned that a Black Company roleplaying supplement should be coming out this winter.

Personally I spent most of my time increasing my autographed book collection.

I got autographs from Colleen Doran, Neil Gaiman, Tanya Huff, Sharon Lee, Laurie J. Marks, George R.R. Martin, Terry McGarry, Steve Miller, Elizabeth Moon, Terry Pratchett & Melissa Scott.

I also talked to David B. Coe, S.L. Farrell, Laurence Watt-Evans and too many others to mention.

Message to the person from EnWorld who came by the gaming room looking for me:

Sorry I missed you! Dan (my husband) and I were running the gaming program for most of the con, since the guy in charge had to be rushed to the hospital half-way through the con! (Don't worry, he's okay :)

I was mostly busy prepping and running what was probably the most challenging game of my life: a Harry Potter LARP for 26 seven-to-twelve-year-old kids. It was supposed to only be for 20, but when I told some of the kids they couldn't play because it was full up, they started to cry! What could I do? I don't want to make kids cry!

It was absolutely insane, but it ran pretty well and the kids had a blast.

You da woman, Balsamic Dragon. I'm impressed!

I know Zhaneel was at the con, as was Spyscribe. One of my friends ran into Terry Pratchett in the dealer's room (where he happened to be standing next to her at a booth). I'm sorry I couldn't make it.

That was me. It was such a HUGE con, with so many people, and so many things to do there, it was impossible to meet everyone. I figured you were busy making the con fun for others.

I only got in line 1 hour before the Neil Gaiman signing was schedualed to start. (The book I got signed was Good Omens which he co-wrote with Terry Prachett.)

I had the pleasant experience of running into Forrest Ackerman in my hotel, waiting for the elevator. For those of you who don't know, Ackerman is the original and quintessential science fiction fan - he's the guy who coined the term "sci-fi".

Forrey is in his late 80's now. A couple years ago he had some serious health problems. It was questionable if the man would ever walk again. He had to sell his home (known as the Ackermansion, which contained the largest collection of sci-fi memoribilia in the world), and move into a much smaller place...

And now, here is was happy as a clam, puttering around the con on his own two feet. He had a pink-haired goth chick on his arm, said chick's beau (who had some wonderful tattoos apparently taken from old horror flicks), and big geeky me there listening raptly to his stories of the first Worldcon, 62 years ago. The man has a startlingly vivid memory, and knows more about the gfenre than anyone on the planet, I'm quite sure.

Best damned elevator ride I ever had :D
