Ok, I was looking through the thread that hong started on the World's Worst D&D Soundtrack(s) but couldn't think of anything for that thread.
http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38295

However, here are my picks for the best soundtracks/albums for playing D&D by. (I have all these, BTW.)

Apocalyptica - Cult
Braveheart
Conan The Barbarian
DragonHeart
Gladiator
The Last of the Mohicans
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
Riven: The Soundtrack
Scorpions - Hot & Slow (The Best of the Ballads)
William Shakespeare's Hamlet

Cheer!

!

The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets
Most of Led Zepplin's stuff

But, being a musician, if somethings way important, I'll just scare up the band (Hey Zeus!) and record it.

Lord of the Rings: Two Towers soundtrack.
Requiem, by Giuseppe Verdi and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. I prefer Verdi's version.
Planets, by Gustav Holst.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon soundtrack. Excellent for OA games.
Most stuff with bagpipes is appropriate, for certain settings.
Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries and that march from Verdi's Aïda are also pretty good for battle scenes, though the former may cause spontaneous outbursts of "Kill the wabbit! Kill the wabbit!".

Anime soundtracks would, of course, work with anime-themed settings and BESM d20, once that comes out.

And some bands a few friends of mine swear by, and delight in playing as background music whenever they're behind the screen...
Manowar, Rhapsody, Blind Guardian, and Hammerfall.

Greig- Peer Gynt Suite: In the Hall of the Mountain King
Final Fantasy 3/6 Soundtrack
The Best of Godzilla: 1985-1995. No, really.

Demiurge out.

If you can get it, burn a CD with the soundtrack from Icewind Dale (the computer game). It is just spectacular. I sincerely would have bought this one if they ever sold it in a store.

Too bad games never see their soundtracks published in CD form... :(

Baldur's Gate is also good, but not as much as IWD.
