Actually, the Icewind Dale soundtrack IS available on a CD, with the Heart of Winter expansion.

You don't say? Are we talking all the HoW boxes or only some special edition extra deal? And is the IWD track worth getting (musically speaking) if one has Baldur's Gate? As in, are the musics different enough in feel to warrant the purchase?

Yours,
Altin

Yah, it comes with every Heart of Winter, to my knowledge. And yes, the music is quite different, what with different composers and all. Baldur's Gate I had Michael Hoenig's music, while Icewind Dale's melodies stem from the pen of Jeremy Soule. I prefer the latter, by the way.

berlioz's "symphanie fantastique"--especially the "dance of the witch-queen" or whatever that movement is called. just eerie and evocative.

Fantasy General soundtrack. For those who haven't heard of it, FG was one of SSI's "Five-Star" series, the beer-n-pretzels grand strategy games they made starting with Panzer General. The soundtrack has a choral/classical feel, and is GREAT for a campaign centering around the classic good-vs-evil conflict. If you have paladins in your campaign, this will be right up their alley.

I use more mp3's than anything else, so some of this may not be valid for albums. I use movies, video games (both console & computer), classical music, anime, and various albums as sources:

13th Warrior
The Abyss
Akira
Alice (McGee's version)
Alien
Alien vs. Predator
Babylon 5
Baldur's Gate (& 2)
Battlestar Galatica
Belioz's Symphonie Fantastique
Black & White
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Brian Eno
The Brotherhood of the Wolf
Conan the Barbarian
Diablo (& 2)
Dragon Quest
Dragon Warrior (reorchestrated)
Dungeon Keeper
Echos of Nature (nature soundtracks)
Escaflowne (this has some GREAT tracks)
Excalibur
Final Fantasy (most of the games have orchestrated tracks available for purchase that are quite good and nostalgic)
Ghost in the Shell
Gladiator
Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite
Icewind Dale
Mediaeval Baebes
Merlin's Magic
Midnight Syndicate (these guys are awesome)
The Mummy
Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain
Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition
Myst III
Neverwinter Nights
The Ninth Gate
Orff's Carmina Burana
Paul O'Dette
Planescape Torment
Pool of Radiance
Princess Mononoke (again, GREAT tracks)
Sacrifice
Signs
Skies of Arcadia
Star Trek TNG: all four movie soundtracks
Stravinsky's Rite of Spring
Suikoden
Vangelis
Valkyrie Profile
Vivaldi's The Four Seasons
Wagner's Twilight of the Gods
Wagner's Valkyrie
Xena (they just released a six-cd set)
Xenogears

Castlevania:Symphony of the Night
Midnight Syndicate
Manowar

Also, something most people in America don't know(because most people in America don't know about Manowar) is that they're the loudest band in the world, having played a concert where they reached 129.5 decibels. ROCK ON!!!

Also, for in game tragic scenes, nothing beats November Rain, by Guns and Roses.
