World's Largest Dungeon question

Before I shell out $60+ on this (one of the last share-the-love discounts :( ), I want to know, is there much worth stealing from it? I don't want it for the sake of a campaign, but rather for memorable items: npcs, magic items, traps, treasure, stuff like that.

I don't think it'll ship for another month, so I have time to decide...

I think its still worth it even if you don't plan to play it as is. Several regions have plots that are good enough to use anywhere (ie. set outside of a dungeon, with bigger distances physically separating the races). Some of the bad guys are very memorable. The chimera Anguish and the amorphous monstrosity Madness - twins created by an evil sorcerer and now out of control. Tyrus the Devourer of Kingdoms. The World Eater. Imprisoned demon lords breaking free from their ancient prisons. The list goes on and on.

Even if you don't run the thing as is, you could rip it for enough ideas to last you through years of gaming.

I'd snap it up. I think that even just sections A and B are well-worth breaking up into mini-adventures. And the whole section with the fallen tree (can't remember the letter) really interested me.

And yeah, Anguish and Madness had my PC's rather unhappy.

I agree with Heretic.

There are 15 regions each with their own plots, and all of the inter-region plots are easily separated.

You may need to do some minor tweaking. This is effectively closing off some entry/exit points.

There are some interesting non-standard magic items that are usually plot related to the region.

It's every bit worth the money. I'm running it now at the store where I work and everyone is having a blast, even when their characters are killed. It's one of the best investments a GM can make because there is so much that can be used outside of the context it was desgined to be.

Oh, excellent. You can tell them i said 'You're welcome.' :D

But to answer the question, admittedly with a bit of bias - there's enough optional rules (like Encounter Conditions), NPCs, traps, plots and every monster in the SRD. Will you use it all? Probably not. But WLD is chock full of ideas, and makes a dandy campaign toolkit.
