Worst Value for Money RPG Purchase

The Wheel of Time d20 gamebook. I had hoped there would be new info on the world and some actually real cool insights, magic items etc. None of that. Flipped through it once and been gathering dust ever since.

The Psionics Handbook since it got totally outdated by the XPH and I never managed to get to use it.

PC2: Top Ballista (OD&D Creature Crucible Series).

I read about it, thought about what kind of cool adventures I could use it in, and bought it.

Read it. Thought it was not as cool as I thought, but still liked it.

Read it again, started mentioning the incredible, over the top additional races, classes and rule-additions. (Playing a Sphinx. Yeah, right!)

Read it again, trying to filter out what I could use in my campaign(s). Total result: nothing.

Every once in a while, when going through my old stuff, I encounter it, and know I will never use anything in it, even while I still intend to continue an OD&D campaign converted to 3.5.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Deities and Demigods.

Lancelot mentioned it earlier. 2E core books and option books: What a waste if you already had all of the 1E books and plenty of 1E players.

AEG's Secrets. I bought it thinking it would add all sorts of juicy "secret society" stuff. Instead, I got a splat book with new classes and lots of pretty much useless to me ideas. It was not so much "secrets" as "Stuff people don't know yet".

Pretty good summation of that book, Hussar. I'm trying to get some use out of it, but none of the class variants raised above the bland level. The past life feats might work, though.

I would have to say that Penumbra Fantasy Bestiary and Magic of Incarnum top my list for worst value. The bestiary got some great reviews, and I got it brand new for 23 bucks, yet it still hasn't gotten any use. Incarnum was nothing like I had thought it would be (preordered through FLGS.) Anyone wanting these books, lemme know what cha got to trade....

I have such a hard time answering this... there's nothing I bought which I regret, I used everything or at least I am going to use it.

But the key of this is that I have bought only a couple dozen RPG books in 5 years of gaming, and everytime I restisted compusive purchases and waited until I knew the valur of the books from reviews and forum discussions.

I second Fiend Folio as the must useless monster collection of them all. I also kind of regret buying book of vile darkness, never used it and don't think I ever will

Hands down, the worst gaming product I ever bought was the old Shadowrun miniatures supplement DMZ.
What a worthless waste of cash.
As written the game was nearly unplayable.
The fold-up counters included were awful.
Worst of all, the game just didn't deliver what it promised.
DMZ was supposed to include quick and simple rules for resolving large scale combats.
The rules were actually more complicated, and took longer to resolve than just using the original rpg rules.
I own a copy of EVERY Shadowrun product ever made - except for DMZ ... I sold that dog as fast as I could!

Ravenstar 1st Edition. Bought it last year at GenCon. It has been sitting on my shelf ever since and has not gotten one ounce of use.

Hah! I actually played that once. :D

Not really great but at least a fun game.

Always wanted to have that expansion book (no clue anymore what that was called) they had promised to make, but apparantly never got around to do so. ;)

Bye
