Worst Value for Money RPG Purchase

Iron Heroes- not all that bad, just clunky and not what I was looking for in a low-magic game

That sums up my thoughts on IH perfectly.

Add me to the FFE list too. I bought a ton of their stuff when they had the $5 sale. I thought I was getting a deal. Boy was I wrong. Now I have half a bookshelf being taken up by their stuff. What a waste of paper. I've actually debated throwing most of them in the trash just to free up some space.

Treasure Quests by FFE. For crying out loud, the entries don't even match the maps.

It was a neat idea executed horribly. Kinda glad I didn't pay full pop for it...it was on the 1/2 off shelf.

Hmm, some instantly regretted purchases:

Hamanuptra (Egyptian Adventures) -- not what I was expecting

Black Company -- I don't even know why I bought it, I think I had heard some good stuff about the magic system, which turned out to be clunkier than expected -- and I don't know a thing about the novels.

ieek. I am suprised to see those two listed in this thread.

I use Hamanuptra frequently for my Egyptian game. Though I must admit I get more use out of my Summerian Ancient Kingdoms: Mesopotamia. I guess my one complaint with the Hamanuptra setting is the inclusion of all the races. I would have prefered a human only version.

Now the Black Company is sweet, but I can see if you haven't read the books it might not seem that way. I do highly recommend reading Glen Cook's Black Company series. It is worth it.

I'm horrified to see the Fiend Folio listed twice.

For me, it's Lords of Darkness. I've used a couple of maps, but that's it. And I could've got those off WotC's site for free.

agreed.

I do have some products I do not see myself using in my game though I have bought them....

Weapons of Legacy and Magic of Incarnum

GURPS 4th Edition Campaign Book. I bought it to GM a group that quickly disbanded for non-gaming reasons. I haven't used it since Spring 2005 and will probably never GM another GURPS game.
Bento, if you ever want to get rid of that book I know someone (aka Me) who would gladly take it off your hands. Arrangements can be made.

I have to put this in two categories:

Has been no use so far: Psionics Handbook

Most disappointed: Eberron's Explorer's Handbook... I was hoping to get some more history and better maps of the unexplored sections of Eberron. Instead I got some prestige classes I doubt I'll ever use and some quick, 2 or 3 page adventures that I never wanted.

The only purchases I actively regret are the Star Wars Rebel Storm Miniatures. I went spend-crazy on those things, and the tiny bit of joy I got out of the few games I played doesn't begin to make up for the insane amount of money I spent on them. The only benefit is that that experience finished me once and for all with collectible anything.

I'll probably never use WLD, but I don't regret buying it. However my non-use of WLD was a large factor in deciding not to get Ptolus. I'll go out on a limb here and predict in a few months or a year someone will cast Raise Thread on this discussion and list Ptolus as their worst value for money.
