Worthwhile Paladin Spells.

Lord Pendragon

First Post
So what do you guys figure are some of the more worthwhile paladin spells out there? It seems like most of them are hamstrung by the inexplicably horrible paladin caster level, though there are some (the ones whose effects aren't dependant on caster level,) that are still useful.

Protection from Evil
Bless Weapon
Cure Paralysis
Holy Sword

Are there others that you've found worthwhile in play? Are there others from third-party sources that are rather nice?

More useful spells from the PHB (most are useful because they free up the party cleric to prepare other - more powerful - ones):

Lesser Restoration
Resist Energy
Heal Mount
Magic Circle vs. Chaos/Evil
Remove Blindness/Deafness
Remove Curse
Break Enchantment
Death Ward
Dispel Chaos/Evil
Restoration

From Complete Divine:

Divine Sacrifice
Golden Barding
Blessing of Bahamut
Sacred Heaven
Winged Mount (helps those of us without griffons ;))

Bless weapon, holy sword, remove paralysis, resist energy, shield other, zone of truth, daylight, discern lies, dispel magic, heal mount, magic circle against chaos/evil, remove blindness/deafness, break enchantment, death ward, dispel chaos/evil, neutralize poison, restoration, and of course, the cure spells are all fantastic and useful in my experience.

Divine Sacrifice from Complete Divine is also very handy. Extra damage in exchange for your hit points is a very paladin-ish thing to do, in my mind. Bless Weapon is a hard one to pass up, particularly with Improved Critical on a rapier.

Divine Sacrifice
Protection from Evil

(Those two make my must-have list. A fireball per round of damage and a +2 deflection bonus / save bonus + immunity to charms and possession is not to be missed).

With Divine Sacrifice, remember to use "share spell" (it has a You descriptor) to give your mount the ability to whoop up too.

Lesser Restoration I use a lot in "realistic" settings where the GM tracks fatigue. It's very useful for Paladins who are up all night watching over the party, but have to kick butt the next day.

Of others:

Holy Sword (despite what they did to it)
Heal Mount (good for when you've done a couple of rounds of Divine Sacrifice)
Shield Other (cast this on the Party cleric and have him do the same to you. This averages out damage totals on the both of you, making it much harder for a monster to kill someone with a sudden hit).

best,

Carpe

Anything you can get a wand for (anything good on the spell list)...

CLW, Bull's Str, etc...

Being able to use a wand at all is what I think makes the Paladin and Ranger shine at low levels. With traditional wealth levels, 2nd level lets a paladin or ranger have a font of healing.
