The WotC boards are down again - does anyone know why they get half the traffic of ENWorld but crash regularly, are down for maintenance more often, and can't seem to fix their Search function?

I looked at the users on-line and most users at one time stats - half in both cases.

Unless that was a technical foul-up, too...

I wouldn't be surprised if they get MORE traffic than ENWorld. WotC doesn't just have the RPG boards, it also has boards for Magic and assorted other games.

I would have thought so, too - that's why I was surprised at the actual numbers reported on the site (when it was working...). I looked up the traffic figures a month or two ago (following another WotC crash) to see how usage compared.

It's a puzzle - of course, so is why can't they keep their boards working regularly...

Hey Shaman, check your PM's over at Wizards when the site comes up. Nothing important.

The site most certainly has less traffic than EN World, if the figures given on the main page are correct. I think Shaman's estimate of 1/2 is probably correct, even including the Magic forums.

Take it from someone with access to the admin cp over there - Their server peaks at 600 or so users. At that point, its server load averages are 12 times ENWorld's when the ENWorld server is working with 1600 users.

Think about that for a moment.

EDIT: Let me add something. All of the people who work on the WotC server are doing the best job they can with the tools they have available. They are all wonderful people. That said, that server is badly outdated and woefully underpowered for the task it is asked to do.
