WotC Closed Down !

Did it occur to any of you people who know so much that maybe he's JUST talking about the UK division of WotC?

Are you really claiming that just because they don't know about it in centers of enlightenment and erudition like, say, Georgia and Kansas, it's not true and he's a "troll"?

Pfah.

This isn't a WotC store, it's my local hobby store that sells WotC product. As I said UK retailers were called to Hasbro HQ for a meeting.

That makes even less sense. If the WotC retailers don't know it, you can be sure that independent retailers don't know it. You don't call independent retailers into your corporate HQ to make announcements like this. That simply isn't the way it's done.

I'm not necessarily convinced you're a troll, but you sure don't know what you're talking about.

One of the guys from Raven looked into this for me after I posted there... here are his comments....

OK, on the grounds that this looked like a news story worthy of Raven's Eye inclusion I've done a bit of investigating. The rumour is untrue. WotC have had a reorganisation in terms of administration functions and the like but that's ALL it is. Basically Wizards will use some of Hasbro's core functions more effectively. They will still continue to support all their usual product lines and will still continue to support everything else in the same manner. This is from the marketing manager of WotC UK - who was also at the meeting referred to! If your retailer has misunderstood the communication then I suggest he contact his sales rep for further clarification.

Hope that helps. Shame in a way as it would have made a nice story for Raven's Eye!

cheers,

Simon Taylor

PS I haven't got time to do so but you might want to post this around some of the other forums that you've posted this to to allay fears.

Joshua, I can assure you he is a local independent retailer and he was invited to a meeting at Hasbro HQ...

I'm not claiming to know how WotC or Hasbro work, only commenting on what happened according to my local shop keep who seemed as upset about the announcements made there as he made me....

Thanks Tom. I was a bit surprised at how quickly everyone jumped on my back and beat me with a stick.

I posted so that I could get the facts and confirm what my local shop said through the wider community, I was worried about it.

Didn't expect to get beaten down by other's ignorance. Because they haven't been told this then it must not be true....

Thanks for reading folks.

So I am confused after rereading all your posts

Was your local independant retailer told that WotC was shutting its doors or the the WotC retailers were shutting their doors?

We're not ignorant because we haven't been told this, we just know how corporations work, many of us happening to work for big ones!

There's no way that independent shopkeeps are going to be invited to WotC HQ and told that Magic is the only line that WotC is going to keep afloat.

Now, on a local level, maybe there would be some kind of announcement of some kind. As in locally we're going to be concentrating on selling Magic, and we need your support as you're our main retail outlet.

But that's a local sales/distribution office deal, and has nothing whatsoever to do with development. I can assure you, D&D is alive and well, and if it is sold off or cancelled (not likely, even in the longish term, IMO) then the first to hear of it won't be a bunch of mom and pop gamestore owners.

Go read your first post- you were not seeking confirmation. You were throwing a fit.

Oh, it is our ignorance that caused us to throw a fit and post a fraudulent message called "WotC Closed Down !".

How about this- it seems every other week someone like you posts a similar message about the end of the d&d world. I have gotten tired of seeing these tantrums posted without any shred of evidence.

I wouldn't exactly call it throwing a fit. He certainly didn't go nearly as nuts as everyone who jumped on him.

The "how dare they post that on these messageboards" mentality around here is getting old. He heard a story from some guy, probably not true, but so what? It's a messageboard, not the Lyceum. Either take the time to set him straight, or save the time by reading some other thread...but don't spend all your time in this thread complaining that people are wasting your time. That's just silly.

It is not a matter of wasting time.. I ignore tons of topics.

This is about generating false concern over a serious issue. The fall of WOTC would hardly be the end of d&d, but it would have a considerable impact.

I think it is irresponsible to try to rile up concern over unsubstantiated rumors.

If he had actually tried to do what he claimed he was trying to do - seek confirmation, then that would be another matter.
