WotC Closed Down !

Furn, I agree with you that he probably should have waited for an answer rather than posting the story on five message boards . I grok what you're saying now.

But...it's a messageboard. We'll never stop that sort of activity. It can only be debunked. Just seemed like everyone was jumping all over the poor guy...first he gets misled by the shopkeep, then gets branded a troll at EN World. What a week.

Wicht, my local independant retailer was invited to Hasbro and told by them that WotC itself was being closed down, to continue on in Brand Name only within Hasbro.

Joshua & Furn,

Yes I was throwing a fit and hoping others had heard similar rumours to help put my mind at rest/confirm the story.

As I said I had looked at the Hasbro & WotC sites for press releases but hadn't found any. I was/am going on what my retailer told me and he was at the meeting in person.....

The retailer chain must work differently in the UK. Hasbro has to rely on the 'Mom & Pop' stores as we don't have any major chains like the WotC Stores.

I posted on 5 boards as these are the boards I visit most days and wanted quick confirmation. Yes it was overkill but I'm not aware of which of which boards 'the folks in the know' hang out in.

Tom, thanks for your support.

Furn, apology accepted.

All, don't prod me just because I'm quick to panic !

Thanks for reading.

Then my guess is that your retailer is lying to you.

Ferrum, could you please provide the name and contact information (telephone, email, URL) for this local retailer? I'd like to talk to him about this. You know, find out who he talked to at Hasbro, those kinds of details.

Thanks!

A lie is one possibility. An honest mistake is another. Another is the "telephone game" phenomenon - maybe the message got garbled. *shrug*

Ferrum doesn't seem like much of a troll. It just seems that he heard an alarming piece of news and wanted to confirm or deny it as quickly as possible (he admitted he was throwing a fit, at least).

About the only thing he's guilty of is a misleading/inflamatory topic.

Where have all the good trolls gone? Where are the ones that could successfully hide their trolling as legitimate conversation? I like smart trolls. Smart trolls are friends of mine. You sir, are not a smart troll.
Slacker, as a resident Troll-Killer around here, I'd ask that you not brand someone who is not a troll.

I didn't see anything in these posts that pinged my Troll Sense off.

Thank you in advance for being more vigilant in the use of the Troll-Brand.

I got the following from the thread on Wizards Board

One of the guys from Raven looked into this for me after I posted there... here are his comments....

OK, on the grounds that this looked like a news story worthy of Raven's Eye inclusion I've done a bit of investigating. The rumour is untrue. WotC have had a reorganisation in terms of administration functions and the like but that's ALL it is. Basically Wizards will use some of Hasbro's core functions more effectively. They will still continue to support all their usual product lines and will still continue to support everything else in the same manner. This is from the marketing manager of WotC UK - who was also at the meeting referred to! If your retailer has misunderstood the communication then I suggest he contact his sales rep for further clarification.

Hope that helps. Shame in a way as it would have made a nice story for Raven's Eye!

cheers,

Simon Taylor

PS I haven't got time to do so but you might want to post this around some of the other forums that you've posted this to to allay fears.

Apparently he hadn't found the time to post this debunking here, too
