[WOTC] Core Rulebooks to be revised?

I could imply that you guys are cheap bastards for poo-pooing a revised set of rules after what 3.5 editions in what 30 years, puh-lease how many operating systems will you go through in a fraction of that time?

Personally I'm more in favor of massive changes rather than small changes, SWRPG revised was a massive improvement over the original d20 version and that was generated in a fraction of the time. Face it guys alot of people want to move forward with the game into VP/WP etc, if people weren't willing to update don't you think we would all be playing original Dnd instead of 3e now?

But seriously, a revised MM? I can understand that they want to upgrade all 3 books and it's probably a good thing for people new to the game, but is this really worth their time and effort?

What I would hope is that many of the monsters from Monsters of Faerun that were not setting-specific (ie, Peryton) would be included. Similarly, I'd look for it to collect many of the non-setting-specific creatures from modules, and possibly the coolest OGL creatures from some of the 3rd party monster books.

I'd certainly be getting at least the revised MM if it had stuff like that in it.

At the same time, I'd use the opportunity to get rid of many of the outsiders (excluding demons and devils) in favor of more terrestrial and 'bread-and-butter' monsters. Then have a separate book of extra-planer critters.

Sorry, but the description says nothing about adding any new monsters.

Actually, if they do a good enough job cleaning up the formatting, I'd be more interested in the MM than anything else. I have a second printing PHB, that's good enough for me. I might buy one if it has something I really like in it.

I really don't see them altering classes - at most, adding things like a revised skill list for sorcerers and extra skill points for bards as variant rules. Maybe do the same for rangers. To do otherwise would make it incompatible with the majority of d20 materials out there.

And remember, that was 25% new or revised. Meaning errata is included in that figure. I'm guessing that this is going to be a lot like the black versions of the 2e core books, because people like Merric can't resist buying them :).

I'll pick them up if there's something I could use in them.

;) The only reason I managed to avoid the cleaned up 2E books was because I wasn't playing D&D at the time. Or indeed, any RPG.

I did pick up the Monstrous Manual (having never bothered about the Compendiums... huge stupid things), and the Players Option books which I adored, though...

Cheers!

Not interested...

... and even if I were, my players certainly *won't* be. What good is it if the DM has the "revised" PHB, and the players don't?
