[WOTC] Core Rulebooks to be revised?

I agree with those who say they'll get the books if the're made more organized and include new content. Grappling is just annoying, considering the complexity of it, and even people on horses is a pain if you don't use it often. One thing I was recently reminded of by another thread somewhere was counterspelling... I haven't really missed it, but it would be nice to see it revised into usability. In addition, my first print books are also wearing out...

By my calculations (assuming a 4% conversion charge), this would save USD 1.93 (6.4%).

And that's assuming the retailers on both sides of the border use the suggested retail price...

I hope that in the revised MM, they include the different ACs for each monster, the grapple check listing like in MM2, and an ECL Number after the CR number. Those alone would make it worth it for me to buy them.

... and even if I were, my players certainly *won't* be. What good is it if the DM has the "revised" PHB, and the players don't?

Exactly. I really can't see my players shelling out another $30. One of them hasn't gotten around to purchasing the current one, instead she's got one of mine on long term loan. I'm convinced she could afford it, so I don't know why she won't spring for it.

Probably doesn't feel the need. Of the four PHBs at our weekly game, two are handed-down 1st printings when me and the other dm bought 2nd printings. (Wonder who'll get the firsts when we get our revised and hand down our seconds...)

I'll get the PHB for sure. Maybe DMG, but the MM will depend on what mods they do.
None of the games I'm in uses Improve Grapple right for instance, and the grapple mods are needed badly.
I also assume they'll seperate the monsters a bit more, since people complained they were cluttered, but I personally would rather have as much as possible crammed into them :-)

Hmm...? I don't understand the surprise and anger. WotC had stated explicitly, even before 3E was out, that they were going to have a 3.1 release with minor improvements. They said that they were going to follow the open software development model. The only question was when. I thought it was a good idea back then, and I still think it is. What do you want, the books to be perfect on the first run? Keep dreaming....and, in the case of Microsoft, bad for your coronary. Can't get mad every other week, I mean. :D
Perhaps they have said so, but it's too early for any kind of revision (we're only into Year 2 since the 3e debut), and I just bought the new second printing of PH last year (right before the end of the promotional "upgrade" price of $19.95). Why can't they simply wait for Year 5 for more input?

Too bad, they won't promote the revised edition with the "upgrade" price of $19.95 per book. :(

IMNSHO, I think they're going about this at the wrong time. It will result in angry customers and another round of layoff. Now I gotta go hang at my FLGS and warn people to hold off on any D&D purchase, even if it's for Christmas, until next year.

I could imply that you guys are cheap bastards for poo-pooing a revised set of rules after what 3.5 editions in what 30 years, puh-lease how many operating systems will you go through in a fraction of that time?
That depends. We cheap SOBs do not buy the full version OS every time a new one comes out. We try and pick up the more affordable upgrade software.

Now, if Wizards are willing to give us the same "upgrade" price when the first 3e PH hit the store, then I'd be more incline to pick the revised version up without hesitation.

Long before the announcement was made, I just bought the second printing of PH (with corrections from the first printing) last year before they increase the price from "upgrade promotion" $19.95 to "standard retail" $29.95.

As much as I like playing D&D, We will contend with new errata from the Revised 3e. Some people think this is an albeit sad fact. I consider this to be an excuse for the lack of proofreading and editing skill. So once again, I ask that you try to make the new version errata-free.

revised books

for a revised PHB, sure I'll purchase it. for a rDMG, sure I'll purchase it. For a rMM, well, that depends on just how well they do it. I will probably purchase it, only because it will mesh with the other rCore Books, but here is the one thing I would love to see from them, and this would also show if they are also paying attention to their competition.

I think it would be very very nice if they had a section for each entry on monster lore for information checks and research, like the monsters done in the Monsternomicon (I think I spelled it anyway), and of course the ECL + line also. If they had lore for each monster, from common knowledge to rare knowledge, then that would be a wonderful improvement to the MM and I would definately buy it.

But I doubt WotC would do this.
