[WOTC] May to August 2003 Release Schedule

In previous editions, the 'Unapproachable East' was Thay, Aglorund, Rasheman and a couple of other countries around there.

So basically, the old Spellbound boxed set updated to a 3E hardback huh? Crap, guess I'll save money by not touching that one.

Does anyone know/think that this Unapproachable East thing may be a return to Kara-Tur?? I felt the exclusion of that setting from OA to be a great loss. This could be its big comeback!

Somehow I doubt it. Somehow I hope not, or that would be one more thing I would have to buy... :)

That said, I never really liked the idea that they stuffed Kara-Tur in the realms (it wasn't originally part of the realms.) In the face of this, I find it ironic that considering this, they felt the need to extract the realms from the standard cosmology, which most prior FR material WAS written assuming.

I thought dragonlance was going to be published by a 3rd party. (the company started by Weis and Hickman)

It is but according to the contract WotC gets to produce the "core book" because...core books make the most money of any line. I here it is the reason other companies such as Bastion Press have not jumped on Planescape or Dark Sun. You can check out the interview with Jim Butler on GR but here's the quote from that interview:

Have you considered licensing one of the old TSR worlds Planescape, Al-Qadim, maybe Spelljammer?

Jim Butler:
We've looked into these possibilities, but nothing has worked out. Wizards wants to produce the main books for these worlds on their own before handing a license off to someone, and that just defeats the reason for us doing the license. The main campaign book is the best-seller of a line's products, so taking that out of the mix reduces our interest in the world. I'm not saying we wouldn't do it, but it's not something we're striving after as much as we used to. If we could work out a deal that both WotC and Bastion Press could agree was fair, we'd take another serious look at it.

what about tooth and claw or whatever that was going to be. is the monster book out now??

They list it on the backlist page, so I would expect they will still publish that during the first 4 months as planned. BTW, its title is Savage Species: Playing Monstrous Heroes.

I'd just as soon Wizards (with whose products I have generally been happy) do it, since I consider Sovereign Press to produce substandard crap. The original (pre-d20) Sovereign Stone RPG is badly broken, and the designers knew it - they had a revised (but still broken) edition out in 6 months and had converted the whole thing to d20 within 18.)

Substandard crap, eh? Apparently you haven't compared any of our recent products with the vast majority of other d20 products out there, have you? Additionally, you truly have no idea just how much effort we are putting into Dragonlance. The point is Sovereign Press is WRITING Dragonlance, we are using the WotC guidelines for creation, we are working closely with WotC to ensure that it is a quality product, and once the Campaign Setting is out, then we will be SURE to live up to that quality, if not go even better.

Our d20 Campaign Setting is already in its 5th printing, with our support products also having seen multiple print runs. We may not be a "HIT" by most people's standards as we only focus on World-Specific information, but I can ensure you that Dragonlance has no better home than with Margaret Weis and company.

Thank you very much.
