[WOTC] Minis Spotlight

Some thoughts:

- A primered, unpainted Reaper or GW mini is better than the slapdash paint job on these.

- I'd rather not figure out rare:uncommon:common ratios when I just want to go out and buy a troll miniature for my next game.

Yeah, but they're not targetting miniatures enthusiasts.

Oh believe me, I know exactly what they're doing.

Games Workshop is like Ferrari.

Chainmail was sort of like the DeLorean.

You are *dead on* in the DeLorean comparison, in the sense that the management and certain WotC employees' treatment of the metal miniatures business (and the people involved in it) suffered from the same ugly character traits (disloyal, back-stabbing, arrogant, dismissive, vindictive, intense lack of management ability) that DeLorean himself is said to have possessed.

I guess that's the crux of what's got me riled about the plastic minis project: those same people who essentially tied Chainmail's hands behind its back, shot it in the foot, and told it to run for its life are trying to profit by scavenging from the remains of the work done by those in the first round (down to using the alternate Chainmail sculpts that the Chainmail team itself wasn't even allowed to put to use), and then using corporate double-speak to tell us that pre-painted plastic collectible what we really want.

I have no tolerance for wasted potential, nor do I easily forgive short-sighted corporate back-stabbers who squander and abuse the talents and good will of their staff people.

I may have asked you this before, Nicole -- if so, damn my fading memory -- but there's something I'm a bit curious about.

If the original Chainmail gang had been able to do it the way they wanted to, what do you think it would the line have been like, and what kind of niche would it have found in the marketplace?

always interested in might-have-beens,

(Oh, and P.S.: I want Mutants & Masterminds minis! Or better yet, action figures! :D)

I don't think the minis look like 'pre-painted crap' at all.

Hmm... No accounting for taste, I guess... :)

Wow, I just looked at the rest of these minis... Uh... Yeah.

I'm sorry, but looking at these pics I won't be using these at all. Maybe if we could see more of the monsters I might be a little more interested but those paint jobs are horrible.

The paint jobs are not anything great, but the axe sister has a grat action pose. These are fine for cannon fodder, but I am not throwing away my paint brushes. I am also more interested in monsters anyway.

These are *exactly* what my game needs: a large variety of miniatures, cheap.

The paint jobs aren't perfect? I don't care.

I'm not interested in buying Hummels, I simply want a *ton* of minis that I can throw on my battlemat.

This is very, very cool.

That's a hundred times better with paints than I am. So, to me, it isn't crap. Nyah. :)

EDIT: Oh, and while I see your point, you're certain ones. What about the Human Wanderer? That one looks painted very well...and the Elven Archer....and the Wild Elf Barbarian...those don't look like the two Half Orcs you've posted here...

WotC has just stepped in their own minis this time. I think they deserve whatever success or failure they get from their new figures. :)

Let the buyer beware! And let the rest of us look on with laughter!

THIS is what I was talking about earlier....insulting those of us who happen to like this doesn't add to anything, it only makes you look foolish and gets people angry. You don't have to like them, but respect while a lot of people may not like them, a lot of people will like them.
