[WOTC] Minis Spotlight

I'd assume it's simply because of cost - it costs more to make larger figures, so they limit them to one/pack. Also, consider a pack with 5 large figures... they might not fit in the booster any more.

(Don't expect figures of colossal monsters except as stand alones, they won't fit in a booster!)

Cheers!

Makes sense enough...not the greatest thing in the world, but won't stop me from buying them. :D I'd expect colassal monsters to be done like HeroClix does with the Sentinal and Sinestro...stand alone, and a bit more expensive...though with the prices of these D&D minis compared to the Clix games, I wouldn't expect the stand alones for D&D(if they do any...I'd expect they would) wouldn't be as expensive. :)

As for MK metals: they sold like dogs. And retailers were reluctant to carry them.

They're not pre-painted! I ain't got time for them! Sheesh, why does Wizkids think I buy MageKnight stuff? For the GAME?

-The Gneech

If that release is true, monsters like Ogres ending up as rares simply because of size does suck... Ubiqitous as dirt CR 2 monster, rare?

It does seem very strange and off...until you remember that this isn't just D&D with the CR system, but also a minis game that may work differently.
The only thing that worries me, is that these larger minis may be a bit more expensive on the secondary market...hmm, good thing I finally found a good gaming store around here...and one that doesn't overprice minis like that. It won't effect me, but I could see this as a problem that will hurt the game more than simply random packaging...

Anyone have any ideas how easy or difficult this will be based on other prepainted figure games like MK?

It is pretty straightforward to strip the MK minis. It's even more straightforward just to paint on top, but that's a different story.

If you go to one of the Mage Knight Boards like MKRealms you should be able to find a lot of info on stripping and a lot of pictures of conversions people have done.

By the way, don't assume that "Large" means ogres; it is more likely to mean creatures with 40 mm base (10' space) like Centaurs.

Ogres aren't really much bigger than humans.

Giants, otoh, would probably count as "large".

I'm speculating, of course.

Cheers!

The "scoop" above specifically mentions Ogres as Rares. It could be wrong, of course... And I really doubt we're going to see any giants.

Why ever would you want to strip and repaint a plastic mini?

Because they look like CRAP with that god awful paintjob. Of course, I love miniatures aesthetically while others may just want them as playing pieces.

For the Games Workshop supporters, most on-line stores are being told they can't carry the figs, to prevent the discounting that is going on. Soon if GWS gets their way you won't see them on the net except at their own site.

Once again paint time and ease of use have to be considered, people use Counters right now, Regdar would prefer mini's and if they are already painted it leaves Regdar time to paint important characters instead of 10 Orcs and their grunt Lt.
