WOTC: Mistress of Pain submissons, who's trying?

Don't forget that according to their press release WOTC is looking at the submissions as a way to bring in some new talent, not just for one person to write the Maiden of Pain novel. Perhaps you won't be the the overall "winner" but if you're good enough you may get a shot at something else. (That seems to be the implication anyway.)

Don't discount your chances if you're not in the industry. I've run across many people over the years that could tell or write a story but didn't consider themselves writers. Writing fiction can be damn hard, but it has certain intangible rewards beyond being published.

Some other good tips:

From over in the book forum, Takyris brought up the Turkey City Lexicon AKA Stuff That's Been Done To Death, So Don't Do It Again.

A few minutes work with Google will show you a number of writing sites, all with advice. What advice to take is up to you :)

One of the best sites I've seen, though, is Holy Lisle's Site which has several writer forums.
