WotC Open Call for Novel Proposals

Just cranked out the one-page synopsis. It'll need tweaking, but it's a start. All I've got left now is the big nasty chapter-by-chapter outline. I don't know how many chapters everyone else has -- I've got thirty, so that's a fair number of sentences, but not as many as the folks who've got a hundred chapters, I guess. :)

How's it going with everyone else? Progress? Anybody already submit?

Congrats on your progress! :) I'm not nearly as far. I have about a third of my novel written, and won't be able to get back to it until the first of the new year. I have a couple other projects in progress that have due dates of Dec 31 and Jan 3. Once they're off my plate, I'll concentrate on the novel and get it done and off before WOTC's deadline.

I've written 58,000 words, and am about half-way done with the story. My concern is getting done in time, because I can manage about 5 to 10K words per week.

I just thought this thread could use a bit of poking. It's the New Year, so we should all have something on our list of resolutions. *grin*

Is this open to overseas writers as well? I live in Europe and the Self-Addressed Envelope part got me thinking a bit because I have no idea if I can access american stamps from here.

Hi Whiplash

You can order US stamps from the U.S. post office. Figure out how much it would cost WotC to mail your reply, and include that amount in stamps on the SASE. I live in Canada and that's how I do it when I submit to the States.

Hope that helps!

Take care.

Thanks for the quick reply! :)

Is there a way to order stamps online, or do I have to make a phone call for such an order? Either way, can you suggest a contact (email address, link, phone number, etc)?

EDIT: Google is king. I found the site usps.gov and made a simulation there to send an envelope and it's around $3,20 I think.

I had some trouble with the options but here's what I did:

- When it asked for the weight of the envelope, I chose 4 ounces. It's roughly 100 grams according to a converter I found, and I don't expect it to be much heavier.

- Then it asked if I wanted form 3817, 3877, or none. I have no idea what those forms are, so I chose "none".

- It also asked if I wanted it to be registered... I said "no", but do you think it's wiser to pay extra for it?

Anyway, any help is appreciated!

Hi Whiplash

You can order international stamps online here. Since the rate is $3.20, you should likely purchase the 80 cent stamps and affix 4 of them. It's unfortunate that you need to buy a pane of 20. You could also buy a book of twenty 37 cent stamps and then affix 9 of them. In the end, that would be cheaper, especially if you don't regularly submit to the US.

Hope that helps! Take care.
