WoTC should discount the 3.5 edition books for existing customers.

Well I suppose there are other economics to think of but it was just a thought really and maybe a topic for debate. Unfortunately, we don't have "Wal-Mart" in the UK yet, even though they do own a big chain of supermarkets over here now, they don't sell the full range of stuff "Wal-Mart" does. Bummer !! even bigger "sigh" as I really liked shopping there when I lived in the USA. :D

Just to clarify that Walmart only sells D&D books online. It is very unlikely they would ever sell them in their shops. Their online store does have good discounts though.

Are there no booksellers selling the D&D core books and other WotC products in the UK at a discount? (I think the EN World Store is ;))

I have to disagree with you here, mainly because of two flaws in your reasoning (at least, from my POV):

and how would you feel if you just bought somthing recently only for it to be the incorrect version and then have to shell out full price again.

Your current core rulebooks have worked just fine for two years - there's nothing "wrong" with them. I would guess that you don't "need" the revised rulebooks to play your game, you merely "want" them - in which case I see no problem with paying for them.

It would not be as bad if they released just one book with all the corrections and/or updates

Thet're going one better - if you don't want to buy the revised books, you can just download the revised SRD for free. Won't cost you a penny!

As you can no doubt see, I really don't see 3.5 as a big deal. If I'm honest, I'm barely interested in it - I only report news on it because it seems that others are interested.

http://www.wal-mart.com - unless they're doing some funky IP recognition you do have them over there.

Never seen one in my life, but I do believe that they own at least one large supermarket chain over here (Asda, I think - but I could be wrong).

G'day

If they give a discount to some customers (however those cutomers are chosen) they will have to gouge the other customers to cover their costs. Me, I'd rather they kept the cost of entry for new players down as low as they can.

This may have been hashed out before(appologies in advance) but I have not seen anything on this topic so I will start off by saying that I feel WoTC should discount(say maybe 25%-40%) the 3.5 edition core rule books for customers who can prove they have purchased the original 3.0 core rule books.
Now, why didn't TSR thought of that when they underwent a rules revision (heh!) of the 2nd edition, which Wizards than carried that product line up until 3e? :p

Honestly, it is not feasible. Even game software versions (e.g., from Diablo to Diablo II) don't offer a discount to upgrade. Only Microsoft does that, and that's because their consumer base dwarfs Wizards of the Coast's D&D consumer base.

If you can't afford to buy the books when they come out, then don't buy the books until you get enough money. In fact, I'm not in any hurry nor anxious for the release of the revised rulebooks. I'll buy them when I can afford it. For now, or at least for July, I'll just download/acquire the FREE Backward Compatibility Guide plus the Revised System Reference Document as temporary "upgrade patches" to 3.5e.

Seeing as how 40% is almost what WotC gets for selling the book, a 40% discount is asking them to give it away...

Add in administrative costs for handling several hundred thousand refunds...

I'm not really sure what the point would be.

I asked this a while ago, but i don't know if you ever looked at that thread again, so you might have missed it, but should we be worried that this site is going to become Morrus's AU/d20 News & Reviews Site?

Not as such. But if OGL games do start to get really popular, I might start focusing on those also. I have more interest in AU than D&D 3.5.

But I won't stop covering the stuff I do now.
