D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

Anything that is true in the Players Handbook, is also true in the ForgottenRealms, I think.
No. The PHB is default lore and is setting neutral, which is why it says how things are done in various settings out there. The default setting is the Realms, but that doesn't make the default core lore apply to the Realms. Those are two different defaults. Setting and core rules.

It's only a matter of time before we get to have the Dragonborn from Kara-Tur and Al-Qadim. ;)
Here's the one from Kara-Tur.

There is no squeeze. I can create a large island in the middle of the ocean, populate it with Ewoks, have some rebel scum and a Jedi land there to take out the force field generator, and then have a giant space battle over that island on a planet which they call the Moon of Endor, and nobody else in the Realms would even be aware of it.

To shoehorn something means to put in someplace which is a very tight fit. That's what you use a shoehorn for. Tight fitting shoes. The Realms is so full of wide open spaces, unknown areas, and lack of lore in even the known areas, that there is no shoehorning that happens in situations like this.
How many times had Evil Dragonborn attack Neverwinter or Baldurs Gate.

5e elements are not important aspects of the setting
.
That's the point.

You putting them in the setting doesn't change the setting.

It's not in the pizza sauce. It's not the cheese on top. It's the side drink.

About as many times as evil Aboleths or evil Mummies.

Dragonborn are not a 5e element. They've been around for multiple editions now.

You are wrong. Every time I add in a race to the Realms is adding an ingredient to the pizza sauce. It's not adding in a side drink, because it's now a core part of the setting. You know what's a side drink? The Rock of Bral. It's off to the side and not a part of the Realms, but still accessible from Toril if you really want to go there.

I, Minigiant, have been asking for a setting tailored for 5th edition for a decade now.

I've been pleading with the community to not beg for conversions of every single old setting just to be disappointed when they shoehorn 5e elements into it.
Re a setting for 5e.

D&D 5.5 is setting agnostic. But 5.0 had Forgotten Realms as a default setting.

Forgotten Realms was updated to match 5.0 and 5.5 sensibilities. Things like the Second Sundering and the end of the Spellplague are for 5.0. Things like no "half" species are for 5.5.

Forgotten Realms has always been the 5e setting. Or more exactly, it is the official setting where the Players Handbook is always true.

One can expect 5.5 Forgotten Realms to feature lore for the Players Handbook species, Dragonborn, Goliath, and Orc, and Tiefling and Awsomer, at least as prominently as Dwarf and Halfling.

Lore prominence isnt the same thing as population size. But the Players Handbook species should be significant factors in societal interests and events taking place in the setting.

I'm not talking about pop size.

I am 100% talking about lore prominence.

Loads of races in Forgotten Realms don’t have origin stories.

Pretty sure I don’t know the origin story of gnomes but don’t really have a problem with that.

I don’t understand why there can’t be many different origins stories for Dragonborn same was there are for Aasimar, tieflings etc. not everything has to be codified.

Also worth saying that there have been half dragons in FR for all of 3rd edition and we never thought it was a big deal, well before the spell plague. Dragonborn is just a playable version of half dragons.

For Dragonborn, I want regional variation. The Players Handbook "default" is moreorless a scaly human with a dragon head.

I want some regions to have Dragonborn tails (like Wildemount Dragonborn do).

Perhaps Karatur Dragonborn are long and serpentine like Gold Dragon. Some areas resemble Godzilla.

The Dragonborn of the Illuskan areas (norse-esque Ruathym, Luskan, Neverwinter, Mere of Dead Men) would be rare but distinctively resemble a snake with head and arms, slithering without legs. The Illuskan Dragonborn would also be known as Linnormr, Lindorm.
