Yep. That's why they don't exist as a playable PC race in my game. Dragons are powerful. Whether through birth or dragon egg corruption, the blood of dragons would make the responding creature far more powerful than a normal halfling, elf or human.
Dragonborn exist in my game, but are closer in power to the old half-dragons, which makes them too powerful to be a PC.
With Tieflings and Aasimar, though, the blood is just a trickle mixed in, because many generations have passed. A half-fiend or half-celestial would have the same problem as Dragonborn have in my game. If Dragonborn were basically just humans with a hint of scales on their skin, perhaps normal skin of a different color(silver, bronze, etc.) and the like, I'd probably allow them. The lore and closeness to being an actual dragon(essentially a dragon parent) is what puts them out of reach.

Socalled "Half Dragon" arent a hybrid. They would be a Humanoid transmogrified, typically by the influential presence of an Ancient Dragon.
These can also be Dragonborn, except originating from Humanoids rather than from Dragons.
These Half Dragon monster statblock would be a high level Dragonborn.

While I can respect and understand your position, I don't share it. I don't want all the races to be that prominent. In my game they pretty much all exist, but a Tabaxi wandering into a town is going to draw attention due to the rarity of them. The same with Loxodon, Kenku and Firbolgs.
With the exception of Dragonborn(for the reasons given in my other post), the PHB races are the only ones that folks generally know well. The rest of the races are very rare in my world.

The nickname "Half" means, not fully. For example, somewhat like a Dragon. It doesnt necessarily refer to sexual reproduction. Indeed, the sexual teproduction is genetically impossible.
The socalled "Half" species are ALWAYS a magical shapechange.

In Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, a person could be transformed into a Half-Dragon if they drank the blood of a dragon, were doused (or nearly drowned) in the blood of dragon or were exposed to the draconic energies found within a dragon's hoard.
I would add in the consumption of Dragonfruit too.

Probably best not say what is or is not genetically impossible in an imaginary elf game. Stories are filled with shapechanged dragons siring children with dragon blood.
3e had whole prestige classes for growing up as a half dragon. Sorcerer would probably disagree with you too.

Exactly. Fizbans also mentions Ancient Dragons have an aura that magically alters the area around them, including other species gaining draconic features.
