why would games workshop buy an RPG when theve so totally distanced themselves from them?

maybe they'll farm DnD off to Hogshead...
:D

One of the reasons I thought "Holy :):):):)! This sounds remotely possible" is. . .well there are several reasons, but one is that GW wouldn't ever really take on RPGs internally if they couldn't be #1. D&D would instantly make them #1.

IMO, this is a load. Not saying the poster is a liar, just that maybe his friend heard or wrong or was leading him on or something.

Though thinking about it, WOULD GW owning WoTC be a bad thing? The miniature gamer in me says it'd be a good thing, as we might actually see a kick-ass miniature line come out for D&D. The RPG player in me says that it'd be a good thing, as we may very well see the Warhammer and/or Warhammer 40,000 worlds made into D20 settings. Those are the only possible advantage I can see coming of it, though.

Anyway, as I said, I don't believe it. But if true, can someone more in the know than I point out what Positives/Negatives there would be to Games Workshop owning WoTC? True or not, I'd like to know if such a thing would be good or bad.

I'll believe it when I see it. I would imagine its just another unfounded rumor like the ones that always pop up right after WotC has a round of layoffs.

And get rid of WHFRPG? Nah.

Really though, nothing's stopping them from doing WHd20 or WH40kd20 right now.

Is'nt there already a d20 W40k in the works? Its by some French company. I could've sworn there was a news article on enworld some months back about it.

With the current stress and strain regarding trolls overstaying their welcome, bear in mind that, if this thread is a troll, the folks here will probably rip you to pieces for starting a hideous rumor.

I miss the days when, with no trolling or rumors required, we would rip someone to pieces just for the sheer joy of it.

If you think things are run bad now wait till Games Workshop takes over. $60 players handbooks (American). A new edition every year. And of course nothing is reusable from the old books. Forget about game balance. Death Of D&D .

In that case, Long Live D20, viva OGL! I'm not the greatest fan of DnD as it is. I've only got the books so I can use OTHER d20 games and settings.

GW has stated on several occasions that it has no interest whatsoever to develop RPG's. So if WOTC was to be sold, you can be pretty sure GW won't be interested.
