No, it is going to be free to everyone who is registered (even free subscriptions). You will no longer need a Master-tier subscription to use Maps. Now a Master-tier will get you more features, so maybe that is what you are moaning about? That it is not everything for free?The map software is "free" if you've already purchased the adventure on DND Beyond. Otherwise, you have to be a Master-tier subscriber to even add your own homebrew maps.
Not a win, in my book.

No, it is this forum. The title only discuss Maps but the link in the OP goes to the same DnD Beyond post. So it would be easy to miss if you are focussed on the other aspects of the article: Maps Feature on D&D Beyond Becomes Free to UseDrat. I didn't see it.
