Now, the big question on everyone's mind is what can you tell us, now, about the books you helped write? Anything at all? :D

Not much. Essentially, I could repeat what they said in the press release, but that'd be more or less it.

I can say (and may have said before; don't remember) that on Faiths of Eberron I was responsible for the Sovereign Host, the Silver Flame, and the religion of Aerenal. (Plus a share of the various new mechanics, of course.) If people like those sections, great. If not... Um, pretend it's due to the editing. ;)

Seriously, the general rule of thumb is that freelancers can't ever release any substantive information on products. In almost every case (though doubtless there will be some exceptions now and again), all we can say is what's already been released through some other channel.

The Special Ed Monster Manual may be the first of the Special Ed books actually worth getting. But are the new layout and new illustrations worth $75? Will there be a regular reprint of the MM incorprorating those changes?

Well, unlike the other two, I'll like take a look at this one. But $100 Can is A LOT of money. There better be A LOT of new material.

[QUOTEl]If anything, I think this is a sure sign that 4E is NOT coming. They wouldn't bother updating the MM layout so extensively and paying for new art if 4E was due next year or whatever.[/QUOTE]

Agreed.

For those that haven't seen this...

The Special Edition Monster Manual is a deluxe leatherbound edition of the Monster Manual that every Dungeons & Dragons player and Dungeon Master can appreciate. It completes the special edition set of the three D&D core rulebooks, following up on the leatherbound releases of the Special Edition Dungeon Master’s Guide and Special Edition Player’s Handbook. This release includes official errata incorporated throughout the edition.

Fearsome and formidable foes lurk within. Encounter a horde of monsters armed and ready to battle your boldest heroes or fight alongside them. The fully illustrated pages of this book are overrun with all the creatures, statistics, spells, and strategies you need to challenge the heroic characters of any Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game.

Over 200 creeps, critters, and creatures keep players on their toes. From aboleths to zombies, the revised Monster Manual holds a diverse cast of enemies and allies essential for any Dungeons & Dragons campaign. There are hundreds of monsters ready for action, including many new creatures never seen before. The revised Monster Manual now contains an adjusted layout that makes monster statistics easier to understand and use. It has 31 new illustrations and a new index, and contains expanded information on monster classes and playing monsters as heroes, along with information on how to take full advantage of the tie-in D&D miniatures line planned for the fall of 2003 from Wizards of the Coast, Inc.

Guys, before you get too excited about all of this, here's the description of the regular 3.5e Monster Manual:

"Over 200 creeps, critters, and creatures keep players on their toes. From aboleths to zombies, the revised Monster Manual holds a diverse cast of enemies and allies essential for any Dungeons & Dragons campaign. There are hundreds of monsters ready for action, including many new creatures never seen before. There is no substantial change to the SE Monster Manual past the inclusion of the errata. It does not use the new (MM4) stat block.

Cheers!

Oh well. It's worthless, then.

Nowhere near worthless - it has a ribbon!

BTW, can anyone remember what the new statblock format was when 3.5e was released? (Yes, I can remember some of the changes).

Cheers!

Though, considering the previous SE books, this is no surprise.
