WotC updates the Product Catalog!

Well current favorites for FR covers: Shining South, Mysteries of the Moonsea, Underdark and Races of Faerun. But I'm a sucker for beholders.

Ravenloft question...

"Ireena"?

The name's not ringing a bell. I know Strahd's "beloved" was named Tatiana, and I know that she returned under multiple different names. Was "Ireena" one of them?

Could be Ari. I'm not sure since who knows a) what changes have been done using the original module and b) how much of the original cannon they are using versus that of WW/Arthus stuff.

You know, I noticed that. The name didn't sound right. Hopefully, they didn't goof, not that it will stop me from buying it.

Now, the big question on everyone's mind is what can you tell us, now, about the books you helped write? Anything at all? :D

You know, I'm not a huge fan of beholders. (I prefer mind flayers.) They're okay, just too overdone for my taste. (But not as much as the Drow.) I looked at both Shining South and Underdark, when they came out, but couldn't justify buying them. I was really hoping to like Underdark, but it was too "Drow" filled.

Hmm, now that i think about it, as long as it's beholders as depicted in Spelljammer then I like 'em (flayers too).

Don't think I've already tried Rob. Ari is pretty tight lipped about his stuff until it appears to be immient upon release.

*hopes it's not a goof either*

Mind flayers are indeed cool. Shining South I got after a price reduction but I liked Underdark since it covered areas I'm used to (Bloodstone Lands, Vassa etc).

Having never gotten into Spelljammer, what's so interesting about Beholders and Illithids in that setting?

And you know, I use to own almost EVERY 2E Forgotten Realms product that TSR put out. (No, I'm not kidding.) I had to sell much of my D&D collection, one year, to have rent and food money, for a couple of months.

Of course, now you can download a lot of them from WotC's website.

I still have my Waterdeep boxed set, however. Someone will have to pry that box out of my cold, dead hands. :]

You know, it's hard to explain. I think it has to do with the fact that Illithids had such cool looking spelljammers (see below), while the beholders were insanely xenophobic, even vs. beholders thay don't consider "true" beholders. I hadn't heard them described that way before, and I really got a kick ot of it.

The Special Ed Monster Manual may be the first of the Special Ed books actually worth getting. But are the new layout and new illustrations worth $75? Will there be a regular reprint of the MM incorprorating those changes?

If anything, I think this is a sure sign that 4E is NOT coming. They wouldn't bother updating the MM layout so extensively and paying for new art if 4E was due next year or whatever.
