WotC updates the Product Catalog!

Not much there that interests me, with is fine since my gaming budget is shrinking. I'll definantly pic up Complete Mage if for nothing else that more Warlock invocations. I'll like pick up the Dungeon Tiles as well, and maybe the Castle Ravenloft adventure, but that one's doubtful.

Ravenloft question...

"Ireena"?

The name's not ringing a bell. I know Strahd's "beloved" was named Tatiana, and I know that she returned under multiple different names. Was "Ireena" one of them?

Off the top of my head, so it may not be exact, but:

Tatiana was the name of the woman who married Strahd's brother (Sergei?) and, for whom he sold his soul (wedding day, blah blah, massacre, blah blah, threw herself off tower is horror, blah blah).

Ireena Kolyana is the Barovian burgomeister's daughter, and the spitting image of Tatiana, as reveled by a picture of Tatiana hanging in the castle. Strahd is convinced that she is the reincarnation of Tatiana and part of his luring of the PCs to his castle involves winning her over (depending on how the cards fall). In one possible resolution to the module, he's right, but Sergei still gets the girl.

Move Cityscape up to September, please, so everyone who got Ptolus can get the most use out of it. (I figure we'll all need the month of August to get through the setting book. ;))

And lordy, I'm definitely running the new Ravenloft adventure this year. My only concern is the amount of time needed to digest an adventure of that size, since it'd be fun to start it as close to Halloween as possible. If not, there's always next year.

BTW, can anyone remember what the new statblock format was when 3.5e was released? (Yes, I can remember some of the changes).Cheers!

  • Adding italicized descriptions
  • Adding the base attack/grapple line
  • Adding the full attack line
  • Removing the damage line and adding damage to the attack lines
  • Spelling out "damage reduction" and "spell resistance"
  • Adding "A X's natural weapons and any weapons it wields are treated as X for overcoming damage reduction
  • Adding "The save DC is X-based"
  • Adding size and weights for most monsters

Some of this occured pre-3.5, but post 3E-MM.

Looks like "Complete Mage", "Cityscape", and "Ravenloft" for me. I'll probably never use Ravenloft, but I loved I6 enough to get the new one.

Out of curiosity, who are the wu jen players who demanded yet more exclusive spells and content that will be of zero use to the vast majority of players?

I've yet to come across people talking about their wu jen characters, wishing their was more wu jen content, etc. (When, of course, the real answer would have been to let them use a subset of the wizard spell list.) Why do we need more for them?

Warlocks, sure, I see people asking about them. But I know of vastly more warmages being played than wu jen, but it's wu jen that are getting extra support? Hah?

I wouldn't get too worried -- looks like they included support for all arcane types except for warmages. But I have to wonder: Do Warmages really need any extra support? They already have an ungodly arsenal of the most offensive magics that D&D has to offer, they can cast in armor, they can get a limited number of arcane spells of any type they wish, including the new spells in Complete Arcane, and they can cast in armor.

Almost everything in this book they will have access to, regardless, and if you give them more of a free spell selection, they become a rather overpowered mix of sorcerer and wizard, in my opinion. Heck, if they add any more options that what they have now, I'll start giving up all other arcane casters in preference to solely Warmages. :)

I'll admit, I don't see any Wu Jen players, though. Maybe that's a sign that they need the support? ;)

And, where can we find them so the culling can begin?
