A thought has struck me like the proverbial half-brick in a sock; the True Purpose of the OGL has been revealed to me!
You've read it in countless sci-fi books, Brin's Uplift and Clark's Space Odessey, seen it on TV progs from B5 to TNG; an ancient, all-wise race seeded the stars with life, encouraging sentience to develop, bringing consciousnes where there was none.
What if this was WotC's sinister goal all along? They sowed the fields with the OGL, allowing scores of d20 publishers to be fruitful and multiply. They fertilised it with the, well, fertiliser that they produce. Then, like the harshest of winters, they winnowed out the weak with the merciless scythe of 3.5e.
And now, they are ready to harvest.
Unearthed Arcana has the proof of this: the mention in the credits of Green Ronin and the Game Mechanics! WotC has gathered in the most succulent fruit of the d20 forest, and consume it themselves! But wait, it gets worse!
And who playtested this material, unpayed, in slave-like conditions. I'll tell you!
Like the Machines of the Matrix, WotC has enslaved the gaming community to playtest it's proto-products, all at arms length, behind veils of deciet and treachery. We are the batteries of their dire enterprise! They feed us on the dissolved remains of our kin! Soylent Green d20 is made of gamers! Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtaghn!
Look into your souls, you know it to be true! All d20 publishers, albeit without their consent of awareness, have been turned into incubators for the impending new dark age... 4th Edition! Alas!
If you want me, I'll be digging a bunker. The End is Nigh!
(Wipes rabid drool off keyboard. Disclaimer: the above was written because it seemed funny at the time. Don't hate me for it
