WOTC's 3-5 year plan

First Post
So, knowing that you have slimmed down your company to be more profitable  , what would your new 3-5 year plan be.

I would imagine that the new novels about the iconic characters are part of it, but what else.

The massive minatures game does seem very plausable, and we know that they are shopping for a new setting from amongst the players, (I have serious reservations about that). D20 modern seems to be a lock, but there would seem to be something looming on the horizon.

What do you think it could be, or what would you like it to be?

arpeejie

i have heard thru the grapevine that part of their plan is to continue to develop arpeejie, the highly addictive substance found in the ink of the core rulebooks and many of the supplements. now that they have developed a version that also evidently influences females it becomes imperative to protect this trade secret, whilst also recruiting more evil scientist to make sure it affects those who don't fall so easily for scenarios where they get to play all powerful beings.

one little known fact is that martha stewart stole the recipe for this additive and started using oit in all her published works(how else can you explain her popularity?)

other than that, it is all guesswork

I heard they were going to collectivize the farmers and set up a spy network...

that's right! and then they'll force everyone to work in printing shops to produce 3e books ... in 15 years they will surpass the US and UK in 3e book production!

whaddya mean no one wants to buy substandard steel ... err books?

3 - 5 years out. *putting on my hat of Humble Opinion*

First and foremost, sell Core Rule Books. All the R&D and production is done and paid for. Sell lots of them.

Probably at least one followup to D20 Modern of some sort.

Milk FR for a bit longer, but it's days are numbered.

The New Setting Search Winner will have to be done. I wonder if this will replace FR in terms of hype/novels/fluff stuff. I especially wonder if the people currently working on FR will "move over" and work on the new setting. I can't see them hiring more people.

The idea of one new setting a year consisting of a only one or two books is a good idea, keep it.

Probably they should be planning one or two mega-adventures, something they can farm out to a freelancer. They could sell novels to go along with them.

Would not be suprised if they were considering a D20 Future book with generic Sci-Fi stuff in it. Since the Star Wars license is limited/expensive.

After getting burned on Chainmail I don't think they will go for a large-scale mini game. But a Mass Combat rule book could be possible.

What I don't see happening is Wotc hiring a bunch of designers and writers in the scale there was until recently.

Well, what they are planning to do is capitalize on my new campaign world [Name withheld] and it's overwhelming popularity. It will inspire books, movies, a live action hour long television series, and a cartoon.

Now all they have to do is declare me the winner of the Fantasy World Setting. I expect that rubber stamp to fall any day now.

g!

Hi all! :)

Lets look at some possible 'major' projects:

New (Pushed) Campaign Setting with perhaps a number of satellite projects.

Legends & Lore

Unearthed Arcana

Deities & Demigods 2 (touted)

Mass Combat Rulebook

(someone mentioned) D20 Future

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (where they introduce a set of logical rules to test the water for 4th Edition)

Greyhawk (given back to Gary Gygax as long as its D20?)

Planescape (Epic Campaign setting?)

D20 Superheroes (with at least Marvel License)

Smaller Projects:

Epoch Books (Myriad setting rules for different periods of history. eg. "The Sun & the Rune" 96 pages of Egyptian and Norse setting material)

City Builders Guidebook

Anyone suggest any others?

3-5 year plan

If I were Hasbro, I'd:
1) Develop a GOOD movie or tv series based on one of the WotC products. Dragonlance? Even an animated movie of the trilogy should do pretty well.

2) Online RPGs. Extend NWN and create MMORPGs with it; charge a monthly rate. Put out classic modules in NWN format and charge a monthly subscription rate for them.

3) More computer game licenses.

4) Iconic/Fiend action figures. :D Done by McFarlane. Half-serious on this one but a Drizzt action figure would sell very well, that's for sure.
